Pan D'Olive — Restaurant in St. Louis

The owner of this place is extremely rude and the food is concerningly bland. We were having our valentines dinner here. For appetizers we had the calamari and muscles and both were unpleasantly bland. However, the sauces they came with were good. For the main course we had the lamb shank and the filet mignon. The lamb was cooked very well but also very bland. The steak and the mushroom sauce, it came with, were not good at all. The only flavor it had was from the burnt crust on the steak. We told our waitress how bland everything was and asked for A1 sauce. We were not rude and were still willing to eat our food just with A1. When the waitress returned with the sauce, the owner followed behind her. He told us we had offended him because he made the sauce and it was “top notch” and instructed the waitress to “get the checks, because they can leave.” After exchanging words with the owner on our way out I noticed he and a group of people had been sitting across from us the entire time with a concerning amount of wine spread across the table. Terrible place. After serving the food to my 3 friends, the owner told me that by mistake he got me the salmon instead of the flatbread I ordered, and if it's okay, and before I had a chance to answer, he went: "it's very good, it's very good," and put it in front of me. I didn't want to create a scene, so I said nothing. My friend ordered a burger, took a bite and decided not to eat it. The meat was bad. When the owner saw the uneaten burger he offered a box, but my friend said no, the meat is not good. The owner didn't even think about offering something else (let alone removing that item from the bill). Instead, he blamed my friend for changing his mind: he first ordered it medium then changed to well done (mind you, it all happened while the order was taken, so I don't know how it can be relevant to anything. But more importantly, how dare they blame a customer for their rotten meat! The food was mediocre minus (the salmon overcooked, the hummous tasteless, and, of course, the bad...

The overall experience was mediocre. The waiter seemed very apathetic and was almost rude. He interrupted my girlfriend in the middle of her order and tried to push me to order salad. We didn't order drinks and in response he said nothing and walked away. The bread came with olive oil, and was pretty normal. But ten minutes later some other waitress appears with butter when we're on our last piece of bread and sets it down without saying a word. Confusing...

We ordered chicken & rice soup (which could have been less oily) and calamari (which could have been more crispy) for apps. The entrees were just okay as well. Shrimp scampi pasta had a funky aftertaste and the shrimp was slightly over cooked and burnt. The veal was also too oily. Overall the food was underwhelming.
