McGarvey's Wee Pub South — Restaurant in St. Marys

My culinary adventures have focused on the flavor profiles of traditional Irish dishes. Yes, there is more than potatoes on the menu. I am traveling within reasonable distances of my home to experience the flavors. For example, one establishment provided a Flight of 3 menu items before committing to eating one, which was enjoyable; however, their shepherd's pie was prepared with sweetness/sweetened rather than savory flavors, which didn’t bode well for me. Today’s adventurous goal was to experience “bangers and mash,” as there appear to be a couple of variations of this dish made with either Guinness, Port wine, or beef stock. When typing Bangers and Mash into Yelp and Google Maps, this establishment was an option for consideration. I verified that the item was on the menu and read the reviews. Upon our arrival, we were greeted well and seated forthwith. We started to place our orders when I noticed that the food item I was seeking wasn’t on the menu. When I inquired about the Bangers and Mash, I was told it was no longer available. Disappointed, I opted for the Shepherd's pie. While I couldn’t obtain the item I hoped for, the experience wasn’t bad. The shepherd's pie was well-made and presented well; a large portion is served in an individual cast-iron pan. Finally a night where the service was a bit more friendly to me. I keep going back trying to love this place because I love Irish Pubs. Not to mention how awesomely it's decorated. Such a homey design but not a homey feeling to me. I've had more interest from a mosquito than I feel from the staff. It;s almost like i;m in a club house for which i don't belong. I do live the food, but mostly somehow the eating experience falls short. Paying extra for celery with your hot wings is just absurd. I've never gotten hot wings without celery. I always forget that when i order from here. One takeout order my daughter and i wanted hotwings from them because we thought they were pretty good. We get our take out home for dinner and Netflix and both orders were horribly wrong. When we called back up there they gladly gave us a raincheck, but it didn't seem to phase them or care about our ruined dinner. The general feeling is not so cold as it is lukewarm. Not good enough for a hot bath or a cold glass of water to drink....

So we brought my 80 year old in laws to dinner for mother's Day to an Irish bar so we could get some Irish brews and the waitress said they didn't have a beer list and we had to drag out of her what beers they did offer. So we all got fish and chips but I didn't want coleslaw so I added buffalo chips to go with it. Well the meal comes standard with fries. So when my meal was delivered I didn't have fries only the chips. So I ask her to get my order that was supposed to come with the meal and she brings a whole order of fries and charges me a extra $5 for them. I was told twice that that was how it is so I got the manager involved. My mother-in-law asked if her and her elderly husband could get a senior citizen discount and they said they offer that just not on this particular day.
