Well… since the closing of Jake and Elwoods, Louisville was once again left without a place that served Chicago style pizza which I so often crave. I do a search every now and then. Recently, Lou Lou’s came up. Well, imagine my excitement. We went last night (Friday, 9/15) about 5:30. Not busy at all, which was nice. Our server was… present, but not pleasant. She was quick to leave the table and quick to rush us throughout and then out the door. She never lingered to answer any questions more than one. The crab cake is more of a crab “taste”. Very small. Glorified tuna salad, but with what I assume is crab, and fried. Requests for additional items, such as a clean plate after appetizers, were either met with a painfully long delay (I watched my wife eating the pizza for several minutes before I got to taste it as my plate had appetizer sauce on it which I didn’t want on my pizza). My wife’s request for a side of ranch went unfulfilled. When we asked for an additional plate for my son, she grabbed a little round plate. Probably the worst service we’ve had at this price point in quite a while. Now the pizza… well… they should put an “ish” after the Chicago name. It was deep crust. Sadly not a corn bread crust. A LOT of cheese. Mostly that’s all it was… cheese. I want to say the toppings were mixed into the cheese or something. Toppings were scarce. Pepperoni, Sausage, mushroom and onion. We were told it would be extra for an additional topping. I guess the $2.75 was for the two mushrooms that they dispersed. So little pepperoni. The sausage was good. It was crumbled which we like. The onion was pretty much raw. I didn’t mind but the wife didn’t like that. Sauce seemed to be an afterthought (my favorite part). There was a smattering on top. And then more cheese. This time Parmesan. The “Chicago” pizza I eat (in Chicago) has cornbread crust (usually), layer of cheese. THEN abundant toppings. THEN a LOT of sauce on top. Lou Lou had a glorified cheese bread. The pizza was fine. I will never order it again. I will never crave it like I do a Jake and Elwoods or Impellizeris or a Wicks. My son had the salmon which was good. They liked the banana pudding (though the menu read nothing about chocolate shavings on top and my son does not eat chocolate). I’ll try some of the other stuff next time. Hopefully we will not have that server again. We will go back. But hopefully have a different server as the service that night was horrible and it reflects poorly on the...
Read moreLet me say I was kinda skeptical about having dinner here because most people outside of Louisiana don’t know how to cook traditional Cajun cuisine and most people outside of Louisiana do not know what traditional Cajun Cuisine really taste like ! I had the Crawfish étouffée against my better judgment for 1 crawfish is out of season and 2 I’m definitely gonna get frozen and not fresh crawfish! When the bowl was set In front of me I knew right away it was wrong . Why do people outside of Louisiana wanna add Tomatoes and or Corn to Gumbo , and Etouffee ? This was not le blonde or brown based roux , it was pink and had tomatoes (but maybe if you were offering a creole variant). It was served near warm at best ! It was also served with a very small piece like maybe a 1/4 piece of what looked like muffuletta bread ? Where’s the baguettes 🥖? Next was the rice , honestly I believe it was a box uncle Ben’s herb seasoned long grain wild rice it said dirty rice there was nothing dirty about this rice where was the ground chicken livers or beef or Andouille sausage bay leaves etc. The portion was extremely small which is kinda crazy because Etouffee in French means to smother or suffocate the white rice ! I felt I was ripped off , definitely disappointed and was still hungry after finishing it . When leaving the restaurant I was reading the articles of the owner and his family connection to Louisiana on the wall by the door and thought to myself he has poorly misrepresented the Acadian / Cajun culture and its cuisine ! My daughter ordered chicken wings which were extremely dry and she got a bowl of maybe 5 waffle fries . My wife ordered the short rib sandwich which was very fatty and greasy and a side of dirty rice ? she only finished half...
Read moreThis place is a classic case of Kentuckians supporting the most bland safe food you can think of. The only thing Cajun/Louisiana about this place is the decor and naming of the dish. This place is for people who have never tried Cajun food.
We ordered the Chicago deep dish with meatballs, mushrooms and feta. We go expecting to wait 30 minutes for this too cook. Waiter even says it takes a long time. So we order an app and the Cajun sampler(gumbo, jambalaya and etoufee). The pizza came out in less than 15 minutes. We weren't even at the restaurant 30min and mind you it took about 10min for the waiter to even come over and great us and take our order. This deep dish isn't deep, has almost no toppings. You can eat it with your hands the crust is hard and has weird burned taste to it. Cannot recommend this dish at all. Save your $30+ and buy dominos.
The sampler of gumbo, jambalaya and etoufee is just a disgrace. It's 3 weird soups that come out with a big side of brown rice. They taste alright. Chef clearly is scared of salt and spicy and doesn't know how to make a roux. Have they ever gone to Louisiana? Let's go next Mardi Gras. Lol my family will show you all around the amazing spots.
Aside from that the service was mehh. We waited a long time just to see a waiter. He had a very large group. We really needed a different waiter that wasn't so overloaded.
If you are looking for a place that sacrifices authenticity of the culture they're supposedly inspired by and love unsalted slop then this...
