Belle Monde Boutique — Local services in St. Matthews

This lovely gem of a resale boutique is tucked in the heart of St. Matthews. There is ample off street parking in the rear of the shop. From the front or back porch you can enter this treasure trove of beautiful clothing, shoes, jewelry, purses and other accessories. The day my daughter and I visited the shop initially we were greeted by Leslie and Yvette. These ladies immediately assisted us in finding a formal dress for my daughter to wear to a black tie event. The selection was varied and beautiful. The care and attention received by the knowledgeable staff rivaled the service we have received at Nordstroms, Von Maur and other upscale department stores and boutiques. Leslie and Yvette had immense knowledge of the boutiques stock and pulled together accessories to complement the chosen dress. My first visit to Belle Monde was great, but today’s experience was deeply disappointing. Upon entering the store, my 7-year-old daughter admired a blue Louis Vuitton bag, tried it on, and put it back. After trying on some shirts, we were approached by the owner and two associates as we left the fitting room. The owner asked my daughter, “What did you do with the purse you tried on?!”

Moments later, the owner found the purse behind the display and said, “Oops, I found it!” I asked, “How did you miss that?” While I understand the need for security, the accusatory tone and how we were treated was unacceptable. I will not be returning. I had hoped to support this local boutique, but I’ll stick to Sassy Fox (where I’ve been treated AMAZINGLY for years!) and online consignment.
