I am pretty disappointed with my experience tonight. This is a restaurant I have gone to about 5 times, but tonight was a situation that I will remember in the future. I am gluten free (Celiac) and I like this restaurant because they are vegan and gluten free friendly. I ordered a cider, I was told by the server they had pineapple. When it was served, the girl (not my server) said it was a beer. When I told her I ordered a cider, she told me that's what it was. Before drinking it, I double checked with my server that it was actually cider, and told him that I have a gluten allergy. He told me it was, and said the girl who called it beer was new. I proceeded to sip it, but it didn't taste like cider. I then called over the manager to double check and she told me it looked like the cider but would pour me a new glass. She brought me a new glass that she poured herself. It was lighter in color, had bubbles, less foam, and was more fruity and less "beer" tasting. I also let her know that I was allergic to the beer I was served, but she didn't seem worried and she told me she was pretty sure it was cider and also said that the girl who served it to me was new.
It was beer. And I am currently having a reaction to it. I am not disappointed that a mistake was made, I'm disappointed how they reacted to the allergy. No one seemed concerned that I drank something I clearly stated I was allergic to. And it was never taken off my bill. Gluten free allergies need to be taken seriously, and problems can't be blamed on a new worker.
The rest of the service was just ok. The food was good as always. Hopefully they take allergies more seriously with other guests because allergic reactions should be held at a high importance, especially at restaurants that advertise...
Read moreWe are temporarily staying in Stamford. We had eaten here one time before. Loved the food, great service. Nice Place. Then we (3 people) went there also last Thursday. Came in around 8PM (they are open til 9:30PM). First we were standing outside considering whether to take a table there (rain was imminent), or to go inside. We moved inside, while no one was at the hostess stand there. We saw one female employee, who was busy talking to some guests who were leaving. She clearly wasn't good at keeping a good oversight of what was happening in the restaurant. When she finally came to us we pointed at one of the two larger booths and were moving already in that direction. She then said "No, you can't sit there, it is only for 6 people or more...". I was astonished... "but it is completely empty inside .... you still think that two larger groups come in and then will also decide for both those booths?" It was clear that things were already winding down in this and other restaurants in this area. She stood her ground and clearly had zero customer obsession. Almost like she didn't want the business (= more work). We said we would then go somewhere else, which was clearly no issue for her. We then went to the restaurant next door, MEXiCUE. They welcomed us with open arms and a smile. When we finished our nice dinner there and walked by Bareburger just 45 mins later, guess what, there was only one table occupied (not one of the booths), and the place looked deserted. It made clear again to me, how it literally takes only one bad, grumpy employee to ruin a...
Read moreI have been here many times to this specific location. Food is consistently good, no complaints there.
However, the service is hit or miss. I would recommend sitting in the bar area to the right of the door when you walk in. There is a lady bartender who serves those tables and she is great. She is friendly, helpful and provides good service all around.
This past time, I sat at a table to the left of when you walk in. We ordered. We never got the waters we asked for, until we asked again when our food arrived. The server then brought it over and put it on the table ... didn't even try to pour it for the guests ??
When the check arrived, I noticed that the sweet potato fries were $3 more with a SHARE denoted. When I ordered I pointed to the side of sweet potato fries and said we would share. Never did the server say there was an additional up charge of $3.
When I asked the manager (Andre) about this, he explained that it was the SHARE portion. I said while I understand that, YOUR server never communicated that, or I would have ordered differently. He became very rude, although ensuring he would change this. When he returned I again said IF THERE WAS COMMUNICATION THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED (I did not say this in shouty caps, but very calmly =) ). I went to give him our CC and he just walked away. I then went to the bar to give it to him, which he then avoided me as if me, his guest, was invisible.
This experience with the manager left a bad taste after finishing what was a very nice meal. He was very rude and short. I would steer clear if you...
