Never answer the phone. Seem to be perpetually understaffed. When ordering take out, they won’t keep your food warm, they just bag it in a plastic grocery sack until your arrival which doesn’t work because the time they tell you to show up is never accurate. When you arrive, you’ll have to wait forever in line just to receive your take out.
The chips are ALWAYS stale—ALWAYS and they give you a tiny cup of watery tasteless salsa. The chips can’t fit in the cup and it’s not even enough salsa for one person. The bag of chips is always wide open when you carry out too. No matter how many meals you carry out, you’ll still only get the one stale open bag of chips and infant sized cup of TASTELESS watery salsa. We literally have to season the salsa ourselves.
The food portions are tiny and the flavor of the food is always different. Usually, there’s zero seasoning in the shredded chicken, other times there’s no enchilada sauce. You can order the same burrito every time by the name they specifically call it on the menu, but yet they’ll give you the wrong type of burrito.
The boxes the food comes in are always filthy with greasy handprints and food all over it. Definitely not something you want to store in the fridge if you have leftovers, let alone touch without washing your hands after. Chances are, you won’t have leftovers due to the tiny portions anyways.
Too bad the Mexican restaurant on Star Rd where Westside Pizza now is went out of business or left for whatever reason. They were a great Mexican chain that we have around this part of Idaho. Restaurants in Star aren’t known for great food or service, but El Mariachi Loco really puts customer service and restaurant...
Read moreWe had excellent meals and the service was quick. We went to dinner on a Sunday early evening a little after 5:00 PM. We had no wait time and were seated right away. Service was quick to respond with chips, salsa and taking our order for drinks. After less than 5 minutes from receiving our drinks, the waiter took our order.
I ordered Carne Asada and my wife had the small chicken taco combination meal. While waiting for your meal we ate the warm, fresh chips. The chips came with some refried bean dip, salsa and an unusual Pico de Gallo. Unusual, as this is the first time I have ever had Pico de Gallo with mushrooms in the tomato, onion mix, but still tasty.
Our dinner was served to the table in less than 15 minutes from time the waiter took our order. My meal was superbly prepared and the seasoning were just right. The portion of skirt steak was generous and the platter was quite filling.
My wife enjoyed her chicken tacos and said the flavor was wonderful.
All in all, we enjoyed our first time coming to this restaurant and will gladly return for more meal choices.
I have traveled all over the United States for work over many years and vacationed in Mexico several times and find this restaurant on equal or better with many Mexican food...
Read moreMy wife and I just moved from Orange County, CA, to Star. Being lifelong Californians, we love Mexican food, and are used to good, authentic dishes. When we saw El Mariachi Loco, so close to our new home, we had to try it.
Located on the 44 highway, outside and inside, it reminds you of Mexico. Our server was from Michoachan, Mexico. My wife was born in Mexico City, though raised in the U.S., so she knows Mexican cuisine. She ordered the mole with chicken, and I ordered the mixed seafood enchiladas with rice and beans. My dish was delicious. My wife liked the mole, but of course her mother made better. Still, this place is a diamond in the rough for us, a good Mexican restaurant a few miles down the road from our new home.
We have subsequently returned three more times in the 2.5 weeks since we moved here, and each time has been great, each dish we've had has been good (Camarones de Diabla, chicken...
