Favorite place to go- usually want to keep my favorite places as a hideaway; however, this place is too good not to share. The building is currently having some renovations done, including a nicely refinished outdoor patio area. They offer weekly specials, handmade strawberry lemonade, housemade tortillas, a variety of pupusas, corn flour tortilla tacos, and ice-cold bottled beer. The staff are always happy and pleasant to talk to.
Was very upset by one review, that repeatedly called Flaka's MEXICAN FOOD, I'm sorry about that uncultured swine- but this is SALVADORAN FOOD. There IS a difference. They complained about the rice not being "yellow", stating they've "never seen a mexican place not have yellow rice" which is utterly ridiculous- since it's not Mexican food anyways. The food is absolutely delectable, and if you're trying to skimp by buying a teenager a children's size chicken tender meal- this isn't the right place for you.
This is an authentic Salvadoran restaurant, and it deserves to be recognized as such.
I've been going here about once a week for a month, never have had a bad meal. It has a 4.8 star rating for a reason, to the review that says they don't know how it could be- they bought chicken tenders from a Salvadoran restaurant, and their opinion should be completely...
Read moreI have been to a few restaurants similar to this one and here the food portions are enough for a child. I paid $80 for the same stuff I order elsewhere that I pay $50. Be aware the prices they have on the menu are not the same on your receipt you pay. My son ordered chicken fingers and fries and it was enough for a 2 year old. He was so disappointed. I didn't want to order him more food after seeing what we got. I saw a 4.8 rating but I don't know how. Also the margaritas are straight sugar with maybe a drop of alcohol so don't order drinks either. Only thing I loved was the service. The woman working there, was extremely nice. The flavor was okay but I've never been to a place that sold Mexican and it wasn't yellow rice or even Mexican rice. Also the pico didn't have cilantro. Maybe it did but I didn't see nor taste any. That was a surprise to me. I love reading reviews to help with choosing restaurants so I wanted to give my honest review because it's already too expensive to eat out but I do enjoy supporting restaurants. This just wasn't my greatest experience probably ever with Mexican style food. I saw a Mexican place down the road that looked like a gas station and I wish I would have...
Read moreGreat Until… Spotted a small restaurant we hadn’t tried and decided to give it a try. We were the first and only customers in the restaurant. I was elated to find out the menu offered Salvadoran food which meant I could order pupusas! Great food and service until the phone rang and the focus of the only server changed to “take out orders”. After the server cleared our dishes we expected the check but that turned into a challenge. After waiting awhile requesting the check the first time obviously irritated the waitress. Started watching her for signs that she was working on the check but interacting with kitchen staff seemed to be her primary concern and then she disappeared into the kitchen. I finally went up to the cash register and waited, then waited some more. When she finally came back I told her that prior to the waiting for check the restaurant would have been due a 5 star rating but, due to the loss of interest in the only seated customers reduced the rating. Her eyes flared with anger and she responded that they “needed to take care of the carry out orders”. So be it but we won’t be back. Fortunately there are other Salvadoran...
