Update - 8/25/25
I had a craving for Chinese and went here. They've revamped their menu, no duck. I had beef and broccoli. Very good.
The egg roll was very good.
The closest thing to a downside was I didn't get as many meals out as I did last time. Hardly their fault and more than one meal is just nice.
A little bit of a mixed review I'm afraid, so it's a little hard to properly quantify it with a simple star rating.
The good: Service was great, their checkout system is clean and effective, food came up ready just as I arrived, so the quoted time was very accurate.
First of all, while the takeout is your standard fare Styrofoam takeout container, they took that extra step of putting it in a tied bag so that none of the juices ran out and either got all over and was clean to transport is very nice.
They actually have duck! And it doesn't cost a fortune! And what a portion! I actually got 2 dinners and a lunch out of the meal, so for the price it's a great dinner. If you told me I got more than one duck in there, I wouldn't be dubious. A very meaty portion, though it's more like a meatloaf then anything else (It is mixed in with a stuffing and other fillers into a loaf like shape and then that's what's battered and fried crispy).
As a slight downside, I didn't realize that I got white rice, I would've preferred brown if they had it.
The dish was served with "Chinese greens", which is a good sample of mushrooms, yellow and red peppers, carrots, baby corn, and more, but it felt a bit haphazard, pieces were various sizes and I barely got any mushrooms compared to the other veggies.
My biggest complaint is that I ordered an eggroll and to be honest, it just wasn't all that good IMHO. Mushy instead of crispy, the filling was lackluster, it just didn't feel like it was the same quality as the main dish.
Due to diet restrictions and budget constraints, I won't be eating there often, but I do plan on eating there again in the future, probably to try a more traditional dinner to see how it more directly compares to other Chinese restaurants. Bottom line, if I'm willing to eat there again, they must be doing...
Read moreUpdate 10/20/23 Just another awesome dinner at Lims. The food here is really tasty. Even better than that is the new items that are being tested or are served as daily specials. Today it was Caribbean Chicken. Very tasty sort of sweet with a little heat sauce. Wayyy better Chinese/American food here. The dishes aren't bland.
Update. 3-24-23 Celebrating a job well done and a goal achieved...my son chose Lims...my boy is the greatest. Once again our meal was totally the best. Battered chicken dishes are truly outstanding. The chicken pieces are superb. All of us were happy as usual. Here is something I NEED to share. The owner is experimenting with what I am calling fusion egg roles. Last night she told me she had something new and she had a few left. What she had made this time (hand made) was what she called a polish egg roll. OH MY WHAT A TREAT. it had fresh vegetables and polish sausage. She served it with a sauce that she made by hand too. A mayo, garlic and something else sauce that really complimented the flavor of the PER. She also has on the menu now a corned beef egg roll with another new sauce that is similar to thousand island but different. Those are just too good. AND, she will exchange your combination egg roll for a new one for just a small upcharge. Please try Lims.
Update 3-11-23. We actually have been here a few times since this update. That alone says that we like it here. It isn't just the food (but that's the main reason.) We love the friendliness of the owner. She is really fun in a professional way. They have a decent amount of inside sit down business but it isn't loud. Best of all they have a new asian corned beef egg roll. Truly outstanding.
We all liked Lims a lot. I had something off of the non combination area (Hong Kong chicken.) It took extra time and oh yes it was worth it. A big plus was that I had enough to have an entire second meal. Really recommend that everyone try Lims at least three times...and then...
Read moreThere is no Chinese restaurant in the metro area worth your time or money once you have had Lims!! Do yourself a favor and dine in for your first meal there. They take pride in their food & services and it really shows. Lims is our go-to at least once a week for dinner so it made sense to choose them when we decided to buck the traditional Christmas dinner in order to have a less stressful day with family coming and going throughout the day. I wish I would have thought to take photos of the take-out spread that the Lims staff put together for us because it was impressive. Boxed up nicely, without a single mistake (extra this, minus that), we fed 12+ people for less than a trip to the grocery store with nothing but compliments from everyone on how good their dinner was. I think everyone had seconds & a few couldn't resist thirds. Big thank you to Gia who helped me plan the menu in advance to ensure we had a good variety for all to enjoy & everything was a hit. As simple as it may seem, their wonton soup cannot be beat. Everyone was talking about the wonton dumplings - they are so much better than anywhere else. That soup alone will make you a loyal customer. You also will not find better Almond Boneless Chicken anywhere. Other honorable mentions that are in our rotation of favs: Orange and Bourbon chickens, Pepper Steak, Beef & Broccoli and their fried rice. We so appreciate the staff at Lims for their effort and amazing dinner! Now I'm off to make up a plate of...
