I've driven by Mexico Joe's countless times and it took me forever to go try it out. The building looks neat from the outside and the ambiance carries itself inside. It's funky, like a mix of Mexican decor and old 50's antique decor. There is a lot to look at and take in.
The hostess greeted us upon entering and we were seated quickly. Our server was good and attentive, getting us everything we needed.
Now let's talk food. It's mediocre. It's more American inspired by Mexican food but it is definitely not true Mexican. if you go in expecting this, then your good. Some of the food had great flavor and other items fell short.
For starter we ordered the Cowboy Queso which the menu described as queso with stewed tomatoes and jalapenos. It was orange and look cheddarish but tasted more like velveeta. There were visible tiny chunks of green which I assume was the jalapeno. there were no chunks of tomato in it.
It tasted like they purƩed the tomatoes and blended them with the cheese. It was thick cheese as compared to several places I have been that have watery thin cheese. It wasn't bad and it wasn't the best I've had, although I'm not sure I would order it again. They do have other queso options on the menu.
I ordered their taco plate with crispy tacos and Tex Mex meat. Despite being described as spicy meat, it was not, but it did have some good flavor. I would describe the taste of these as a step above Taco Bell crispy tacos.
I had rice and beans on the side. The rice was not Mexican rice but it did have a different and good flavor and was cooked well. I got charro beans as my bean choice. this was probably my favorite part of the whole meal. I liked the charro beans so much that I'll probably go there just to order the beans again on occasion.
My partner ordered the steak fajitas. It was loaded with tons of onion and three pieces of bell pepper. The steak was cut into large chunks and was very flavorful and tasty. Definitely a good food option. They give a good portion of the side fixings (lettuce, pico, cheese, sour cream, guacamole).
They so serve chips and salsa with the meal upon sitting down. there are three different salsa to choose from and they all have a completely different flavor. These are not your traditional salsa. The mild is onion heavy but has a really nice flavor. The medium is heavily seasoned with black pepper, which was odd but also satisfying. the "extra spicy" salsa was not really all that spicy at all. It was heavy with jalapenos. Overall they were enjoyable to eat, but again, not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been coming here for over 20 years but itās been a few years since my last visit. Extremely disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food. Shredded chicken nachos add extra beef has always been my go to and tonight was a very sad meal. Thought I would make my night better after the disappointing 8 chip slivers, which I get a little bit because technically itās supposed to be an appetizer but when they were cut into actual triangles and piled high with toppings they were out of this world, and have a fried ice cream I havenāt had since my birthday as a kid⦠Wow I canāt believe how small the cinnamon bowls have become and itās not just because Iāve gotten bigger thereās definitely been some changes made. I guess when youāre trying to accommodate in a college town and want to make everything cheaper thatās the way to go but I wouldnāt be opposed to spending the extra for quality food It used to be. Now seems like just another āmexicanā joint and thereās plenty all over the state even trucks popping up left and right. Wife had mentioned they changed the menu a bunch with not as many options and didnāt pay any attention because I always get nachos, maybe a chimichanga or an occasional fajita (nothing was ever special about their fajitas so rarely ordered them) but glad I didnāt because I saw her little portion of rice and beans with her meal and that would have upset me. I had thought about asking a manager what had happened but could tell all the staff I saw was young and would have never remembered what this place once was. Like back in the Joeseppi or Mojos days you know way back when it was the only place we ever ate out because grandpa could find something on the menu to accommodate his diet until gluten free options became standard at most restaurants. Not sure if they are under new ownership or what but Iām going to attempt Eskimo Joes next time weāre in town and see if they have done anything to mess up their bacon cheese fries and if so Iām done with their franchise entirely. Only business of mine theyāll receive is advertising when Iām using one of their cups for my cookies and milk at home ššš with that being said many businesses serve in the same cups now but doesnāt matter whatās branded when Iām wanting āthatā particular cup itās always been called a Mexico joes cup in my household! Only reason service received a 4 star is the server was barely average, super nice but not...

Now, let's talk about their culinary offerings. The chicken flautas are nothing short of a culinary masterpiece. The artful combination of crispy tortillas and succulent, well-seasoned chicken creates a symphony of textures and flavors that dance on your palate. It's a harmonious marriage of crunch and tenderness, leaving you craving for more with each bite.
The rice, a side that often plays second fiddle, steals the show at Mexico Joes. It's a revelation in itself, bursting with flavor and serving as the ideal partner to the flautas. The meticulous blend of spices elevates the dish, leaving you savoring every spoonful. It's a testament to the care and attention that the chefs put into each and every element of their menu.
While the salsa might not have hit the mark for my taste buds, it's a small hiccup in an otherwise stellar lineup. The rest of the offerings showcase a level of culinary expertise that's truly commendable.
What truly sets Mexico Joes apart, however, is the infectious fun that permeates the entire establishment. Laughter and lively conversations fill the air, creating an atmosphere that's not just about the food, but about the joy of shared moments with friends and family.
