CHAAT OF INDIA CUISINE — Restaurant in Stockton

My brother and I tried this place out to check out some appetizers. I must say we were very disappointed in the quality of the food.We ordered: Mango Lassi: Somewhat bitter, and the color seemed as if there was too much mango puree in it. Gobi Manchurian: The Gobi was too soft and not thoroughly marinated. Samosa Chaat: For some reason there was a lot of water at the top. The chaat was not tasty at all, just a big portion and the cilantro tasted as if it was a few days old. No flavor really. Veggie Rolls: These I must say were probably the best thing we ate considering the bar was set pretty low for the food. Paneer Pakora: Absolutely horrible. Out of a total of 10 pieces, for some reason 3 of the pieces were a completely different color as if they were old. The potato stuffing was completely awful. Too much garam masala which caused the color of the potatoes to be brownish gray. (could also be due to old potato stuffing) To top it off, when we were seated we were asked if we wanted water, to which we said sure. We thought we would get water in a cup but were given bottles and assumed that was due to COVID. When we got the bill, there was an extra charge for the water bottles. We would have no problem with that had we been told that the "complimentary" water would have an additional charge. This is no fault of the waiter but the owner themselves because they are trying to make an additional few dollars off of their customers. Overall, if you can avoid this place please do so. My family and I had booked them for the banquet hall to celebrate a special event. The inside of the hall was just filthy. Floors were to dirty with broken tiles, bathrooms were super dirty, walls were are chipped with paint coming off from multiple spots, wall plaster repair was needed, wires were hanging from the roof, poor lighting, no waiters were provided, the AC was not turned on throughout the whole event even though multiple people went up to them to request for some cool air. We noticed the guests were feeling very hot as it was 101F outside so we did go towards the restaurant side to ask why the AC isn’t working we noticed the restaurant side where they all were working was cool and ac working just fine. We had to go get fans from a local store so our guests can feel somewhat better. The uncle with the turban was super rude to us. Multiple guests found hair in they’re food and the food tasted old and was all cold. As our party was still going on he kept having his guys pick up our stuff that we paid for and brought to the hall such as; (10 2L soda bottles, 2 water cases, 7 alcohol sealed bottles, mithayi and food) and go put it to the other side so they can perhaps use it for the restaurant side. Moreover we came to find out that he had “secretly” open a sealed alcohol bottle and drinked out of it a day prior to us arriving to our party. He is very disrespectful and so is his staff. Great food and service and excellent selection of drinks in a small intimate setting. The staff are excellent and always on top of things. The operation is a family run business and they care very much about their guests. The selection of various dishes are plentiful and excellent. There is always something that will stand out for you and remain one of your favorites among the various curries, meat, and vegetable dishes along with Tandoori chicken. The addition of French fries was a great idea because they do it with their own Indian flavor and twist and it has become a local favorite among those who enjoy potato fries. You'll just have to come and find out. If you wish, they will provide you with ketchup on request. The tables and surroundings are always clean and pleasing to the eye and the owner cook/chef who often comes out to take a break is warm and smiling all the time. They have a small bar with a decent selection of fine liquors that is plenty enough to satisfy those with a taste for finer alcohols. The beer selection is also the best from India and local favorites. Arrive for the lunch buffet or after hours dinner from the menu. You will not be disappointed. They can make whatever you like if you do not see it on the menu. They can also host parties and/or cook for your parties, just provide them with plenty advance. Reasonably priced and located within the shopping area where there is plenty of parking, this restaurant will be one of your favorite destinations all the time...
