Phoenix Express has the best sushi in the area, hands down. It may primarily be a takeout place, but the prep and flavor are a step above. The guy who runs the place worked in a high-end sushi restaurant in NYC, and the quality shows. They even started giving you your order in a bento box, which is a really nice touch and is the only place I’ve seen do that around here. It’s a tad expensive, but the lunch special (3 rolls for $16) is worth it for the quality of food you get.
If you’re here just for the sushi, it’s 5 stars, no question. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that a few months ago they installed a huge TV behind the counter that started running 24-hour news any time I’ve picked up my order. So now if you’re in line waiting to pick up your food you have to deal with the horrors of the world while you wait. The TV is faced towards the restaurant and away from the workers, so this ostensibly is for the customers’ benefit. In a world where the news is shoved down your throat on every device and screen you come in contact with to drive engagement, this feels like a bizarre choice and an ambiance killer. Everyone has a smartphone these days, and if you want to catch up on current events while waiting for your food you can easily do that. I doubt I’m the only person who finds this to be a major irritation, which is a shame because the food is incredible. When I see a TV at a sushi restaurant, they usually show something like a fishtank, or foreign music videos, or a street cam, something passive and relaxing. If they switch the TV over to something like that, it would be a huge...
Read moreHow have I not eaten at the Phoenix Express until two days ago. I love Sushi! But unfortunately the only time I get sushi is when we go to Hibachi Japan, because I am the only one in my family who eats it. And unfortunately Hibachi has really gone down hill and we’ll probably never go there again. Their sushi rolls were not as good as they used to be either. It was so bad that I started getting Sushi from Meijer because I was getting desperate. Don’t get me wrong Meijer is okay; especially if you are in great need. However, my neighbor introduced me to Phoenix Express! And what a relief! Their food is amazing! I wish I would have checked it out years ago! I used to really like Sakura in Fairlawn and they are great; Phoenix Express is just as good if not better!! And it is in my own backyard. Thank you Phoenix Express. Keep up the amazing work!! Did I say all their food is good. Not just their sushi! Give them a try. You will not be...
Read moreFantastic local place offering a good selection of sushi, Chinese and Japanese fare. It’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, nor is it the largest menu I’ve ever seen, but this is still my go-to place in the area. The quality is outstanding and the prices are very reasonable. The lunch specials are a steal—slightly smaller portion size than dinner, but still A LOT at a great price, especially if you go with the sushi/salad. They have a standard sushi selection plus some unique creations and monthly specials. I’ve had most of the non-sushi items from the rest of the menu and have enjoyed all of them. Portion sizes are typical, nothing has ever been under/over sauced or seasoned, and I’ve never had issues ordering. I’ve eaten in restaurant once which was fine; usually so take-out and never had issues. The staff is all friendly as well.
This is definitely the best option in the area. Been going here since they opened and hope they...
