This place is one of the closest to the entrance for Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. It gets a lot of customers based on people looking on yelp when they start getting close to the park entrance. First thing the staff said as soon as we walked in Staff: its going to be at least 45 minutes before you get your food Me: that's ok Staff: I just want you to understand its going to be a while Me: do you want me to leave? Haha Staff: no, but the kitchen is preparing lots of orders. Me: (thinking, isn't that what all restaurants kitchens do yet they can usually manage to get food out in less than 45 min? But this place is rated highly on yelp so let's give it a try). Mind you there were less than 30 diners in the whole place, empty tables, and at least 5-6 people working. It takes an hour before my younger daughter's grilled cheese sandwich is brought to the table. A bit gourmet for a four year old with a mix of different cheeses. Imagine a hipster made you a grilled cheese sandwich that's just too fancy. It's supposed to be off the kids menu! She didn't finish it (see pic) My older daughter ordered a peanut butter sandwich which they didn't put the order in for and the server said he'd get right on it. How long does a pb sandwich take? 90 minutes after we ordered the shrimp tacos and burger come out. Still no PB sandwich... Server: I'll have them make that right away! The burger was horrible. HORRIBLE! I don't care if you claim to "use grass fed, local beef and bake the buns yourself", at the end it has to taste good! It didn't. It was cold, no flavor, bun was stale, I couldn't even save it by adding condiments because they only have "organic house made ketchup" aka finely chopped, runny, salsa-ish stuff with no taste. Compared to my burger the tacos my wife ordered were phenomenal, but really they were just ok. While my 6 year old daughter wasn't eating (because her food was never brought out) she made friends with a little boy from another group. He fell 2x from the oversized picnic table inside the restaurant and pretty bad the second time crying (landed on his face from a few feet above ground). No staff ever came over to see if he was ok. If it were my daughter that got hurt I would have told the owners to remove the dangerous table and make the food suck less! Bill brought out, still no pb sandwich, server offers to "quickly" make it, but I'm not falling for that a 3rd time... I paid and left to pull the car up to the front. While my wife and kids were waiting near the inside entrance the owner now chooses to walk up, not to ask how everything was, not to apologize for the delay, not to apologize for the PB sandwich never coming out, but to tell my daughters to quiet down. My wife told me my 6 year old just responded with "you didn't bring my sandwich!" In the way a 6 year old being silly would. Owner just responded sarcastically with "awww I'm sorry about that!" No "here's a cookie" or anything to try and be nice about making a 6 year old sit and wait for 2 hours and you never bring out her food! I don't know what trickery is behind this restaurant's #1 rating on yelp, but if I had just come to trusty old Google and read all the horrible reviews, and even more disgusting responses from the management, I never would have gone to this place! The management certainly doesn't take criticism well either based on other reviews. I'm curious what or if there will be a response/explanation given for why at least two different parties had a horrible experience this Sunday at their establishment.

“I don’t even know what to say!” Sir Robert… you know I’m sayin! On my way home to NY from NC, I was tired and starving; looked for excellent google reviews for diners in the area of Shenandoah County. Blue Wing Frog kept popping up. The name intrigued me as it was, so I found my way there and I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place! Everything on the menu is scratch made; including the condiments. They’re also vegan so no tummy aches!! (All the bread is homemade too!!) Robert, the owner, greeted me with the most genuine smile, told me a quick overview of his lil place and I decided to let him choose my meal. Thank goodness I did!! Catfish tacos… I’ve caught a catfish and threw it back and swore I would NEVER eat one. Oh man, I’m beyond happy he chose for me. The fish is… well, honestly the only word I can say is delicate. Robert says “sublime”. And both are true! Purple slaw, cilantro crema, and hot sauce with a slice of Cajun grilled pineapple. Amazingggg. All topped with a squeeze of lime. Anddd then Robert says “have you ever seen an aloe plant bloom??” Well no, I have not. He gave me something incredibly special…aloe flowers! They’re edible and taste the way honeysuckle smells. I added a few to the tacos and it made them even better. We chatted throughout my meal, laughed so many times, and I took home a loaf of homemade cinnamon raisin bread. He said to make French toast with it. Will do. Good music played in the background, the artwork on the walls fit the vibe perfectly, the menu isn’t huge making it easy to choose a meal, window art was fun to see, live plants and fresh scents filled the dining rooms. The food is clean (which is often very hard to find), and fresh and all the flavors come together in the most perfect way. I will leave you with a quote from Robert because I couldn’t have said it better myself… ”Existential culinary experience.” See you next time I’m in town!! Cheers my friend!! (Someone left a one star review… idk what her issue was, but she’s wrong!)

Laid back yet enthusiastic staff + local source uncommon menu items give the oddly named Blue Wing Frog a decidedly welcome alternative to Port Royal's greasy spoon diner selection. On sitting down the first thing I noticed was the prices which run about $20 per entree. Yikes- but by the vibe it appears there's an "organic" thing going on here. The water and ice is self serve and they have a local, uncommon beer selection. Split the goat cheese with bread appetizer and the beef tips entree with my SO to keep the costs from running away. The two plates were adequate for 2 after a light day of hiking and we noticed the red sauce has a hint of apple sauce and cinnamon cleverly incorporated. While not amazing, the food is expertly prepared and served. Would be nice if they had open wifi available so I can find out if they drew two nouns and one adjective out of a hat when they named the place. ** Update password is available at the cashier. Blue Wing Frog is a dance between elegant and hip with dishes that are more in line with the arts district of a trendy city than on a secondary street by a national park.

I am bummed out because my friend recommended this place. I am guessing it is hit or miss depending on how busy it is when you go.

The interior is very cute and they have patio seating out front. Parking is plentiful as well is the wine selection. They also have some meads and beer to choose from.

The menu has something for everyone and while it may be considered on the pricey side for some, know that these items are local and some organic. There are multiple kids options that are healthy.

When we first arrived we ordered a kids meal right away to hold over the kids. It came out pretty quickly and I was impressed with the generous amount of fruit that was served with it. They ate the whole thing.

We ordered our meals about 10 minutes later and another kids meal. Unfortunately my meal took an hour to come out and my was undercooked. I got the burger which looked amazing. The sauces were delicious and greens fresh. I ordered a medium burger, but it came out very rare. I almost never send food back and will just eat it. I had to send this back it was so rare. They gladly and kindly took it back and apologized and said they would cook it more.

A short while later my food came back out. It was half of the same burger I had sent back with no sauces and half of the sides. Where is all my food? I cut into the burger and the interior was the same rare meat. At this point I brought it to the servers attention. I asked her if it was the same burger, because my understanding is you are not supposed to re-prepare food that customers have already eaten/or has left the kitchen. I also inquired as to where our other meal was and the additional children’s meal we ordered an hour prior. The server became flustered as she felt my frustration with the situation. We were all starving at this point and none of us had food we could eat yet. The children were becoming fussy and as you can imagine everyone was getting a little tense.

The server rushed away without a word. She got the owner to come out to talk to us. The owner was very nice and wanted remedy the situation. She apologized and I told her our frustrations. At this point the second kids meal finally came out. My husbands meal was still not out. She did seem a little flustered and a little defensive, but this is her business, I understand. You can tell she cares and has pride of ownership for her business. I still left feeling frustrated and hungry. I still felt like the situation was not handled 100% appropriately. You can’t be perfect everyday, it just doesn’t happen. This is how you become better and excel is by sharing your experience so we can learn from each other.

With all that said. This would be a good spot to have a long leisurely outing where you can sip wine and relax. I would not recommend with children.

We arrived at 115 and didn’t leave until close to 3, my husband got his meal finally done to go. Google does not let you add on an additional response so here is my response to the owner's comments:

Our table had two families that sat together. This is a counter-order restaurant so you order you are ready for food. My husband and I arrived after the first family and they had ordered one meal for the kids to share. That meal arrived quickly after my family arrived, as noted in my review. My husband went in to our our meals, noted we were a separate party, and requested a separate ticket. We were told by staff that they wanted to keep orders on the same ticket because it is easier for the kitchen and they can split later.

Undercooked meal: I did not eat half of my food, I cut up half the burger to see if there was any of it I could eat. The other family had ordered the same burger at the same cooked-level and their was cooked perfectly. I did not eat my burger. The other family ordered the same burger and was cooked perfectly.

There is a pattern of speaking ill of customers when they leave constructive feedback on google. Maybe look to improve in areas that customers are giving you...

This place is one of the closest to the entrance for Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. It gets a lot of customers based on people looking on yelp when they start getting close to the park entrance.

First thing the staff said as soon as we walked in

Facts: We arrived at 12:30, and our foods were served at 2:10pm. People after me got their food earlier. Google does not allow me to reply to your response. So I have to reply to your response here! Your attitude and behavior were not professional, were not like a owner/manager of a restaurant.

(1) You did spend quite a good amount of efforts to reply my original response. But why did not you address the simple comment "People after me got their food earlier." I do not think "understaffed" can explain it.

(2) "22 minutes" is a lie, "45 minutes" is another lie. You named those specific numbers only to make other people believe you.

(3) About the kids, I am very sorry. I admit that we are not your "ideal" customers, especially when we are 2 families with 4 toddlers. As you said "I have rarely encountered a party so memorable for their ill behavior". The kids started playing at your restaurant after they waited for an hour. I took my daughter out and gave her a timeout. I had to feed them with our "supplemental food" (not sure why you do not allow it). At the end of the day, they are not strong enough yet to wait that long for foods.

(4) "you were WELL warned that we we understaffed " is also a lie. It sounds like I was WELL warned about this at very beginning, and I chose to wait. Actually, this was the excuse that the front-desk gentleman said when I asked him about our foods (at least 45 minutes after I was seated). Logically, it does not make any sense that restaurants would warn their customers that "we understaffed" as soon as the customers open the door.

(5) I do not think "understaffed" could make you so justified to serve foods late. I can accept it as an excuse, but cannot accept it as a valid reason to fight against me. I think restaurant is supposed to have enough staff to provide sufficient services/foods.

(6) Google invites customers to leave their reviews freely based on their own experience. I checked your response history, it seems like you do not accept any bad reviews and your responses were very mean. this country allow people speak freely, and express their personal opinions freely. However it seems that you do...
