We wanted to find a good breakfast spot on our way out to Moyer Aviation where we did a flyover of the Delaware Water Gap. There were a few spots on the way but many of them didn't distinguish themselves. Many were run-of-the-mill family-oriented diners that called themselves "pancake houses" or something similar. Kitch-en was the only one that stuck out as something interesting, so we took a flyer on it given the good reviews.
From the outside, you'd never realize how good of a place it is. The strip mall in which it's located is pretty nondescript and the restaurant's sign is very plain. We walked in and were immediately seated by the very nice host, and after seeing the menu, had a lot of trouble figuring out what we wanted to order since it all sounded pretty good. He came to get our drink orders. I couldn't decide what I wanted, but my fiancée ordered chocolate milk, which he said was made with the chef's housemade chocolate syrup. Sold! Two chocolate milks. It was seriously the most delicious chocolate milk I'd ever tasted. Not overly syrupy in taste or texture, there was just the flavor of delicious chocolate. After tasting this, we were already excited to try our food.
I ordered the breakfast burger after the host recommended it. I was torn between the biscuits and gravy and the burger, but ultimately went with the burger since it seemed like a more unique item that I wouldn't be able to find elsewhere. My girlfriend ordered the special pancakes, which were buttermilk chocolate chip pancakes with a housemade peanut-butter-caramel maple syrup. The food hits the table and we're stunned by how good it looks.
I'll start with the burger. The first thing I remember about the burger is the amazing patty, a mix of ground beef and housemade pork sausage. I've had plenty of "breakfast burgers" before, which are typically just regular cheeseburgers with bacon and egg, and of course those are good. But this is the one and only time I've ever had a breakfast burger that tasted like, well, breakfast! The other flavor that really stuck out was the housemade maple-bacon marmalade - are you seeing a pattern here? Everything from scratch, housemade, prepared with care and skill. No shortcuts, no fillers, just fresh flavor in spades. The gouda cheese, over easy egg, and crispy hash browns added more substance and flavor to the mix. Possibly the single best burger I have ever eaten, and that is VERY high praise.
My fiancée's pancakes were nothing short of exceptional. The pancakes themselves are among the best either of us have ever had - light, fluffy, but still flavorful and not at all dry. The peanut-butter-caramel maple syrup was insanely delicious and had a flavor reminiscent of Amish peanut butter schmier. The portion was gigantic so I "helped" my fiancée finish the plate without any protest from me. I could've eaten a second plate, they were that good.
We decided to take some snacks for the road. Some lemon pound cake and cookies made for a good snack for the road and for late nights at our room in the B&B. So so good.
When the bill hit the table, we were FLOORED. Understand, we come from Long Island, and prices in New York are often inflated due to a variety of different factors. Here, the prices are surprisingly low for the quality of the food you get. Even a greasy spoon diner breakfast costs more on Long Island. I guess it's really a different world over there in the Poconos!
Stunningly good restaurant and one of the best meals I've ever had. I have to admit that this is one I daydream...

Read moreMy boyfriend and I went in today at 11:45 for Sunday brunch. When we arrived, the gentleman told us we could sit at the table near the window. After we sat, a party of 4 and a party of 2 came in and were seated. The waitress took the orders of the two parties that came in after us, and took another 15 minutes to come to our table. In that time, I overheard a conversation between the waitress and the gentleman, stating that the kitchen was out of breakfast items, and that we would not be served breakfast because we “sat ourselves”. When the waitress finally got to our table at 12:00, I asked if there was an issue that we sat at the table we were instructed to sit at, and mentioned I had overheard her comment. She stated that it “wasn’t about us” and that she was busy and serving people according to the order in which they walked through the door. I stated that we had arrived before the other two parties, to which she denied. At that time, we decided to take our business elsewhere. Now, having experience in the service industry, I understand the balance between being busy and ensuring people are not waiting for too long. However, it was evident that the waitress had noticed us sitting, waiting, MULTIPLE times and refused to serve us. I am appalled at the excuse for “service” from this establishment and will not...
