It's a small hole in the wall mom and pop spot so I love it. The food is WONDERFUL. I'm now addicted to their doubles! A plain is $2.50 and with any meat is $5 regardless of what meat. So they are totally worth it.
My issue is that there are NO prices anywhere to be found. So when I rack up almost $50 bucks worth of food I'm in shock 😲 I get the doubles cuz they are inexpensive but their meals are almost $20 a pop. So it's annoying now know what anything costs unless you go ALOT I guess.
Finally and the WORST part a out this place is how often they are CLOSED! Their food is great...if they don't have a closed sign and be back on So and so date. I don't know if the owner goes on vacation like twice a month for long stretches of time and sometimes just a random regular Tuesday and I drive 30 minutes for good food and low and behold closed...AGAIN. 😅 call before you go! If no pick up, don't waste your time.
The service is really slow too, albeit nice workers. First time I went I was polite and was still deciding what I wanted so I let the guy behind me go first. And the dude ordered like 10 doubles and it took like 15 minutes to make. Happened to me twice with another lady who got their before me, same thing, she ordered for all her coworkers and was in line for mad long. They really should hire more workers to man different stations to keep the traffic moving 🙄
Their drinks are too sweet, just sugar water. The decor is plain nothing special or trying to impress with eye candy. Anyone who is their is there for the food not for the atmosphere cuz it's always uncomfortabley hot inside from the cooking and foe some reason they don't keep the front door open to let the heat out 😅
Ide eat their everyday if I could but it's not worth the disappointment of driving to somewhere that closes all the time and gives no indication except for a printed piece of paper you'll find when you get there so don't ever go by what their actual store...
Read moreFood: Tasty and satisfying. Asked for extra pepper in my food and the server put, maybe a tablespoon- could not even get a hint of a pepper flavor - disappointing.
Prices: INCREDIBLY INSANE!! One chicken roti is $12, which was $10 a few weeks ago, a plain doubles $2.50, which was $2 and a plain aloo pie $3, which was $2.50! I understand inflation but inflation didn't happen in the few last weeks, it was here when they arrived in our area. I also know we're not in NY where the cost of labor is much higher than it is in East Stroudsburg, PA but NY still manages a chicken roti for $7 and a doubles/aloo pie for $1.50-$2. There is no need for Jen's prices to start at a very high price point and for them to keep increasing it. They saw we would pay $10 for a chicken roti out here, so they decided to price gouge and raised it to $12, along with their other price increases, only to satisfy their greed. I am all for supporting local mom and pop businesses but not when they try to rip off their customers. THEIR PRICES IS THE REASON I WILL NO LONGER BE SUPPORTING THIS BUSINESS. If they come to their senses and sell their decent food at decent prices, I will return.
As I write this review, I checked their UBER Eats prices which reflect what is stated above, see photos. Insignificant, but this was a To Go order, not Dine In, in case they charge more for Dining In Orders.
Business hours: Who knows? Despite a posted business hours sign on the door, you may show up and they are closed.
Was very happy to have a real Trinidadian Roti Shop in the neighborhood - Disappointed they...
Read moreI’m from New York so it was important to me to have and give business to a Caribbean restaurant here in Stroudsburg as I love Caribbean food. I would specifically go there for my size small salt fish meal with boiled plantains. I never received good customer service as I was never greeted by anyone when I came in despite me being the only one in the place. I would often have to ask if someone will take my order before anyone talked to me. But still I really love Caribbean food so I looked past that. Today I go to get the same thing and although I see the small containers that I normally get my food in they tell me the meal does not come in a small. I would either have to order a medium or large which is way more than I wanted or can eat. When I asked why can’t I just have the amount I want in the small container that i see in my face and that I normally get I am told “things change in life”. And then was told it was because “of the spices”. Which makes no sense. The difference is that instead of paying $8 for a small I would have to pay $15 for a medium. So really it’s just to make more money from even loyal customers. I think that’s bad business and I will not be returning. I guess I have to find...
