A surprising little gem.
We stumbled upon this place by accident, on our way to visit a much larger brewery on the eastern side of Sturbridge. After buying cans at that brewery and having waited sooooo long in line to do so, we developed a thirst. The other brewery was not doing pours that day so by the time we passed by Altruist again, our mouths were fire hazards. We drove around back of the old mill to find this place on the ground floor.
It was buys but not crowded and we quickly with flights in hand. All that we tried were enjoyable. It is the smallest brewery that I have ever visited but what it lacked in size it made up in fine been and friendly surroundings. I won't go back to the other brewery again due to the Disney like waiting lines, but I would come back here for a friendly pour were I to revisit...
Read moreAltruust Brewing, in Sturbridge, MA, was the perfect place to meet up with our daughter and her family. It was a beautiful day to sit outside at a nice, well-spaced picnic table. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The fare is light, pizza, hot dogs, sausage and pepper subs, and croissant sandwiches, plus a lot of beer. The food was very tasty, although my spinach and feta croissant could have been filled a little more. My daughter lived the flat bread pizza, and the men gobbled the sausage and pepper subs! They all really liked the beers: cherry sour was a big hit as well as the coffee stout and pumpkin ale. Is was a very nice way to spend a few hours together while distancing. I would suggest bring a phone that can scan things, as that's how you read the menu. We will...
Read more5 stars for the beer, 3 stars for the service. We were seated fairly quickly but it took around 15 min before anyone came to take our order. We almost walked out. Apparently that’s the norm because the waitress only came to our table at ~20 min intervals. I saw other tables also had poor service. They don’t want you to get a drink at the bar. When I was leaving, I had one worker tell me I can go pay at the bar, and another shooing me back to my seat when I went inside. They need to figure their rules out. There was a food truck and live music when I went. The outdoor seating is dog friendly. The sour float is really great. Overall I’ll be back to try some other beers. Hopefully they will have ironed out the...
