Seriously... WHO is padding the reviews for this place?
Here is the 'skinny', and I apologize in advance to the owners, but it is all true.
We had a hankering for Mexican and when that happens we normally run to the Mexican place near us, but we were feeling lazy and we always see this place listed on BeyondMenu where we normally place orders for delivery. It always sounded tempting, so we decided to order.
WORST $40 ever spent. The only positive thing I can say is that the delivery driver was nice.
Other than that, despite having phoned them last week (when we were just thinking about ordering from there) and being told that they packaged everything crunchy, separately, AND despite placing the order with a note ON EACH crunchy item that read: "Please package crunchy things separately so that they do not sag in transit", we of course received everything packaged together and soggy. They even put the tortilla strips IN the soup.
That said, truly, even if they had packaged it as we asked (and as they said they did the week before), it would not have made a difference. Their nachos are not the type where they pile stuff on chips. They are the type where there are six or seven chips on a plate, a thin layer of beans (like a thin spread), melted cheese and a few meagerly pieces of beef or chicken on each (we ordered large orders of each, chicken and beef nachos). I thought: this CAN'T possibly be what we paid close to $8 each for. It was. The soup was in one of those medium plastic containers most places put to-go soups in, and it was only 3/4s of the way full despite having ordered a large soup, with no signs of having leaked, and as I already mentioned, the tortillas in it were pretty much dissolved. It is sitting on the counter as I type this and the only reason we haven't given it to the dogs, is because I don't know if it has onions in it. The bag of chips that came with the Chile Con Queso was the ONLY thing that we had no problem with in terms of the food. It was a pretty good sized bag. Not huge, but not small. The Chile Con Queso though was sent in a small plastic container and that too was only 3/4s of the way full and what I did have of it was just 'okay'. (My BF had the Queso since the nachos were not enough. I kid you not, he asked: where's the food? To which I replied, I left the nachos next to you, to which he said, "that was it?").
Now, to clarify, we order out A LOT. We have come to terms with the fact that food isn't always going to be that great. This however was not even in the ballpark of "meh", and I leave this review in the hopes that they improve, because it was really, really bad.
As for the positive reviews about the food (I can't speak about the drinks because I never tried them), there is no doubt in my mind that they are from friends and family. I say that because there is no reason for me to believe that they just HAPPENED to change their recipes and portions on the...

I rate Mexican food restaurants based upon two things: salsa and margaritas.
Margaritas: Awesome. Similar to Berryhills.
Salsa: they give you a green and a red. The red is freshly made and moderately chunky. The green is pretty good.
Nuclear Salsa: this is one of the few places in Texas that serves (upon special request) an extremely hot green sauce. If you are a chillihead, ask for it. WARNING keep away from pregnant women and children!
I had the Chile Relleno, which is one of the hardest dishes to get right. The presentation was a little flat but the taste was great. The skin was absent from the poblano and the interior was a mix of perfectly seasoned picadillo, veggies, and cheese.
The refried beans were great.
The rice was good but not what I expected. Their rice is a bit drier and a shorter grain than I’m...
Read moreI moved to Greatwood in May of last year. Since then, I've toured my fair share of food in my community! If I had a top 3 neighborhood restaurant, Cristobal would be the clear winner at the top spot standing proudly above the rest. The Birria is on point, that Ribeye is to die for, they make killer drinks, and their people are warm and welcoming! I've never had a bad experience there, which is more than I can say for most places around here. I've watched the behaviors of these places during the worst economy of my lifetime. While most restaurants started being chintzy and cutting portions, I noticed the portions at Cristobal got larger! Have you ever heard the adage, "Actions speak louder than words?" Instead of giving your money to Chipotle for a burrito full of rice and beans, give back to your community and go give it to these people! You...
