I don't even know where to begin. My experience at Sunmerland Beach Cafe was absolutely stellar. From the moment you walk up those stairs you were greeted with a smile. The house / restaurant itself was absolutely delightful. There were historical photos all over the walls, the Victorian architecture has you gazing in every direction, and the outside seating has a really beautiful view of the quaint town.
Now for the good stuff, the food. Before I dive into the meal, I have to stop to talk about their coffee. They serve Green Star coffee. It's fair trade and absolutely delicious. It has a very rich and strong bold taste, the perfect start to any day. Refills are endless!
Now for the food-- we took our sweet time trying to figure out what to order. Everything sounded really good. Very reminiscent of old school diner food, but with a beautiful California coastal twist. Their OP potatoes were absolutely delicious. They were perfectly diced into small little squares with a delicious taste in every bite. Their bacon was thick and perfectly cooked, you can tell they take pride in the quality ingredients that they use. It really showed, tasted, smelled....etc. -- all of the senses were engaged.
Their biscuits and gravy were on the sweeter side, but in a really lovely light way. With a little hot sauce, it was the perfect side! Their French toast?! Omg it was perfect. Not too sweet and perfectly balanced.
The staff was so kind. I can't thank them enough for a beautiful breakfast. This is for sure a stop for us whenever we're driving up/down the coast again! I recommend stopping at Sunmerland Beach Cafe if you're ever passing the area. Sunmerland is just a short 12 min drive south of...
Read moreExcellent, As Always! Ordered Crabby Bill's Benedict and let me tell you how delicious it was... every last bite was Deeelicious! Ordered my Benedict with a side of fruit and the amount of Fruit given could've been a meal in itself! I Love that they dont serve tap water here either! Being in the throes of such a severe drought (you'd never guess with all of this rain we're getting) restaurants Should follow legislation and require customers to request water. Do yourself a favor and if you want to skip on their Amazing Coffee or OJ, ask for water. You'll be Pleasantly surprised when they arrive with a Voss Water in an actual glass bottle!! for $1. I challenge you to find this bottle at Any restaurant in California for what they charge. I could go on and on for days and days about this Fine establishment, but since Super Bowl LIII is tomorrow, I really need to hit the hay! They Truly Do have the Best Breakfast in Santa Barbara!! It's Incredible to be able to enjoy such hearty food And get such awesome service in a Victorian house built in the 1890's! You'd Never guess by just driving by. The droves of people waiting out front should be your First hint that there is something magical awaiting on the other side. Keep up the Awesome work and I hope to see...
Read moreWhat happened to this place? I had the worst breakfast of my life there in June. I ordered eggs overeasy (my usual) and got eggs completely cooked throughâno yolks, then I waited for 20 minutes until I saw my waitress (apparently she was the only waitress for the entire restaurant at 7:30 am on Sunday), then when she resurfaced, I showed her the incorrect eggs, she agreed they were way off, apologized and she brought me two completely raw eggs. Apparently, the new people in the kitchen donât know what overeasy is, dont know how to cook eggs, and donât know that raw eggs arenât acceptable. The potatoes were rock hard and completely undercooked.
Our waitress disappeared again, so we just left the uneaten food on the table. We had her as our server many times before and always good, but so understaffed and just no care or customer service anymore. No water, no coffee refillsâŚthe place is so downhill. Worst of all, I emailed the cafe and asked if someone would call me to discuss (because Iâm a longtime customer, not a tourist) and my email was ignored. Two weeks and still no response, so they do not care anymore. Garbage food, garbage service, garbage management. I will never return. New owners? New management? New untrained cooks? What going...
