I have been going to California pizza since about 1992, first time, Kahala Mall in Honolulu, Hawaii. We haven’t stopped since. Went tonight for Mother’s Day. Let’s just start at the beginning, hostess with the long braids, she seemed really stressed and not able to crack a smile - not a good impression. First contact in the restaurant, maybe try smiling. The guy at the host stand, we met him the last time we were there, and he is really an amazing host. The last time we sat in the bar, and we got most of our order and everything we needed thereafter from him, not the bartender, and I told him I was going to make a review just for him and I forgot. He’s really a great employee, and he should actually be a server if he wants to be. I’m really sorry if I forgot his name. He sat us outside tonight as requested, because the restaurant is always freezing. Took a bit for our waitress to come, and she said she wasn’t told that she had a table seated outside. No problem, whatever, I find that hard to believe with our host who is so on it. We put in our whole order at once, including drinks. The skinny margarita with a little bit of spice was perfect - thanks bartender! Next things to come were the newer eggrolls, and our Italian chopped salad. The chopped salad I’ve been ordering since 1992. Egg rolls very good. Chopped salad, 100% rancid oil in that dressing. I took a few bites and knew exactly what was wrong with it, I’ve been cooking since I was a teenager and I’ve had rancid oil in my home before. My daughter, soon after, said (she does not know how to cook although she’s 27), “something is wrong with the salad.” Mind you, she’s been going since she was old enough to remember too, and we always order the same salad, every single time. I told her what exactly was wrong with it, the oil was rancid. Had to push the entire salad on the side, and we knew our entrées were coming soon, so we just told the waitress forget it, take it off the bill, please. Next our entrees, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and a mushroom, sausage, and pepperoni pizza. Alfredo very good, warm. Pizza really cold, not even remotely warm, not a clue where they were keeping it while they were making the pasta. Had to send that back and asked if they could microwave it or something - it came back hot after a little bit. Dessert time, chocolate soufflé cake with ice cream. Cake is perfectly dreamy like always, ice cream was totally icy like it had been in a freezer forever, and did not taste like a Häagen-Dazs. As if we don’t know what freezer burn tastes like! The only real ice cream I buy at home is Häagen-Dazs when I do buy ice cream, and no, it did not taste like Häagen-Dazs ice cream at all to us both. Told my waitress to take that ice cream off the bill too. She came back after and said they told her that it was brand new out of the freezer. Yeah ok sure, but how long was it in the freezer before we got it? Like I said, we both did not think it was Häagen-Dazs, it was pure icy crystals, and that’s the only reason we like their ice cream, because we know Häagen-Dazs is really rich and delicious. Did I mention that we wanted to order a Carne Asada pizza and that’s why we went to California pizza kitchen, and our waitress said they were “out.” Out of what, but that’s why we had no choice and decided on the mushroom, pepperoni and sausage. We had decent service, but not the best. I don’t know, maybe she had 100 tables inside. Food was subpar for a $114 check, and the icing on the subpar visit, the manager, Melody. Man did she look like sour grapes as if we were just making things up to complain about. Nah Melody, we wouldn’t have come to the restaurant if we had a lot of complaints before, rogjy. All these little things, they are a reflection of management. We both decided that we’re going to try a different location next time, we were not digging the vibe that Melody put off, or the fact that we couldn’t order what we wanted, and some of the things that we did order that we wanted, tasted like crap. Maybe the host should be...

YAY TORI! 🔥👏🎈😃 CONGRATULATIONS!!!
We celebrated the passing of her exams at her favorite pizza joint, California Pizza Kitchen in Summerlin, which is convenient for both of us.
It was a new pizzeria to me, but I freakin’ ❤️🥰❤️ pizza, so of course I was open to try it out.
There’s both indoor and outdoor dining available, with both shady and sunny spots if outside is your preference.
We started with an outdoor table but decided to move indoors to the bar area, since we were on a bit of a time crunch that day. Mike the Bartender took great care of us, and it was fun to chat with him throughout our time there.
It was Tori’s day so she had free reign of the menu. I had the same drink she ordered. I don’t remember the fancy name of it, but it’s the margarita just inside the front cover of the menu. Tori chose sugar instead of salt on the rim, and Mike made a suggestion regarding the wine and we went with what he picked. I don’t remember what he called it, but whatever it was, it’s worth finding him and asking him about it. YUM! I would have ordered more of those, except I am a responsible Driver, so I stopped at one. But yeah I’d go there again just for that! 👏
Tori also chose the food: Barbecue Pizza with Spinach-Artichoke Dip & Chips. All On Point!
As I said at the beginning, I really, REALLY love pizza. I’m NOT picky about it. If it is crust with stuff on it, I’m usually pretty happy. If it’s still bread (focaccia, tortilla, bruschetta…) same thing. Basically, bread-type stuff with stuff on it is my ideal thing to eat. Or pomegranates. So, I can’t really say that’s the best pizza I’ve ever eaten, because to me, it’s all pretty fantastic.
However, I can tell you that I do NOT like…
*Pizzas that are so greasy that you get trails of it oozing down your forearm as you try to eat it.
*Pizza crust that is raw in the middle or too soft/soggy to be held and eaten.
*Too much stuff (sauce and/or toppings) that overwhelm and overpower the crust.
CPK was NOT too greasy. (YAY!!!!) The crust was crusty (YAY!!!) Balanced top stuff & bottom crust (YAY!!!)
The dip and chips were also really good.
I am adding “Wine & Dine @ California Pizza Kitchen in Summerlin” as one of the reasons I will drive to Las Vegas from my home in Pahrump, about 60 miles away.
The vibe is cool, the 🍕 &🍹are delicious!
Oh, and complimentary valet parking nearby too which is really nice! If you’ve never been to Summerlin, California Pizza Kitchen is one of the many reasons you might want to check it out. For more about the area, reach out and ask me.

Read moreWorst restaurant experience ever. I went there with 2 people, the blond guy at the check in counter wanted to sit us at a table right next to the entrance, not well lit and literally everybody bumps into you as they enter or leave. The restaurant was not crowded, so many empty booths and tables. So we kindly asked to be sat in the middle dining area where it was well lit and has a nice ambiance and again, many empty booths and tables. The guy at the check-in desk said, "oh that area is closed, I will sit you here" (a different table in the first, not well-lit area and pointed to another table that was at least not by the door, so we were okay whatever, we just had to wait for it to be cleaned). Not even a couple minutes later, two groups of people came in and were immediately ushered into booths in the area we originally asked for. So, NO, it's not closed haha. We asked the same blond guy to double check, and he kept repeating "well, I, am going to sit you here" and did not want to address his lie, and had the most passive aggressive, arrogant attitude. We sat at the original miserable table, our server came in and started chatting and confirmed that the middle dining section is NOT closed, so we asked to chat with the manager.. tbh, couldn't even think about eating at that point, because the whole treatment, attitude, and straight gaslighting by that first check-in guy was so frustrating.. we talked to the manager who was kind enough to apologize on behalf of his staff member, but I couldn't sit one more minute in that place and we had to leave and go spend our money in an establishment that truly respects the intelligence of its customers. This place is rude, first time...
