Rotolo's Craft & Crust — Restaurant in Summerville

Our first experience here was on Valentine’s Day, when they first opened. Service was great and food was amazing. But I hate to say it has quickly gone downhill. We have been back twice since then and both times our service and food were no where near as good. Tonight we had a young girl as our server, the restaurant was not busy nor was she. I have worked restaurants many times before and have a great respect for people in food and bev and completely understand why service may lack when they are busy. Our server took our drink orders and then just completely disappeared. The three tables that came in after us were served before our order was even taken. Finally after making eye contact with our server she came back to us. She had to come back twice to take our order because she forgot it the first time. She brought my husband’s appetizer out shortly but never brought my salad I had ordered. After waiting for 50 minutes in a restaurant with only 3-4 other tables, our pizzas finally came out COLD and still no salad. I finally asked her about my salad and she walked to the kitchen and brought it out, the bowl was cold so I knew it was just a premade salad in the fridge that she took out, meaning it was not the kitchens fault that she forgotten it for so long. She never came to check on us the whole time we where there but we watched her on her phone and hanging out with other servers. We waited for our check and boxes which she quickly brought of course…. I paid and waited 5 minutes for a receipt while she stood 10 feet away but never came back to the table until we finally left. We were both extremely nice regardless of the service, but her other tables were noticeably upset as-well. Other table tried to stop her multiple times for a check and she continued to ignore them until the woman finally got up and walked to the kitchen asking for a check. My husband and I don’t get the chance to go out on dates often, and the service we received tonight was extremely upsetting. Like I said, we understand when a restaurant is packed and things are slow, but there was no excuse for the service we received tonight. I would love to leave out server’s name, but unfortunately she had no name tag nor came back with our receipt for me to have her name on it. They have great food when it comes out on time and HOT, however due to our last two experiences with the waitstaff we will not be back....

My family and I visited on September 24th and spent $35.97. We were seated in a shared booth even though there were at least seven empty tables available. My seat faced the window with the sun directly in my eyes, so I closed the blinds. When a server came by, she reopened them, and even after I explained, she only pulled them halfway, leaving the sun still in my face then pulled it back down again.

We asked for crayons for the kids twice, but no one ever brought them. I eventually had to get up and get them myself.

We ordered the shrimp appetizer, which looked nothing like the photo tiny, overcooked, and disappointing. The wings we ordered were far too salty, so we sent them back. Instead of simply acknowledging the issue, our server commented that they were “seasoned very well,” in a way that came across as dismissive and even racially insensitive toward my husband.

Throughout the meal, the service was poor. She never once asked if we wanted more drinks, then dropped off the check, left the card machine on the table, and walked away without a word.

Great first experience at Rotolo’s! Nice beer selection (altho they need to provide a beer list), good food and attentive service!

3/9/25 update: sat in the bar area tonight and had another good pizza. tried the Vin Monster this time and enjoyed it with some good beer! glad to have this place so close to home!

6/30/25 update: saw that tonight was to be the first "pint night" at Rotolo's, so we ventured in. we sat at the bar (got the last two seats). there is a real sun problem at the bar at certain times in the late afternoon. the bartender was quite warm, and several sitting at the bar were wearing sunglasses inside. more shades are definitely needed. on the positive side, the featured beer was very good, and we also enjoyed some cheese sticks and pizza. I'll also restate my suggestion that Rotolo's should publish a printed beer list! the chalk board approach is fine, but there are no details about the beers. you can't tell much of anything from the names. and we couldn't see the video display where we were seated. hopefully, pint night will become a...
