Celiac's beware-not gluten safe and not willing to go the extra step to help avoid cross contamination. I called before going with my son and the guy was very brusque on the phone. I asked if they had gluten free dough, but when I asked if he could cook the pizza on a pan or sheet of foil he cut me off 'we do this all the time, it's fine'. No, not if you have celiac disease it's not. My son's sport team was eating there and I hated for him to miss out, so I called back and this time got a more helpful girl who right away told me they cook GF dough on a separate surface. When I asked if they use the sauce/spoon that touches the regular pizza she put me on hold to check. When she came back on the line she assured me they would not do this. Husband went with my son and the same guy that answered the phone told him he wouldn't get a separate sauce. He said he's been doing this a long time and people "with your allergy" do just fine. So no, we didn't eat there. Jake's of San Jose does say they will change the sauce FYI. I wish places that attempt to cater to those who need to eat gluten free due to celiac disease would actually educate their staff for simple ways to avoid cross contamination so everyone can be included, especially little kids. This isn't some kind of dietary preference but a serious auto-immune disease that shouldn't be treated like a huge inconvenience. Really, would a fresh sauce hurt your bottom line when you can just...
Read moreWhy is it so hard to find a great salad in Sunnyvale?! My "go-to" used to be Wendy's, LOL, for their Chicken, Apple, Feta Salad; but they closed. 🤷🏽 So I Googled it and was directed to Jake's. I had never heard of them and used my Google Maps to find them. In a big, but older and nearly empty parking lot; was Jake's! But don't be put off by the exterior; the interior is big, welcoming, has lots of flat screens and has lots of big booths! There is also a Games area in back for the kids. My Chef's Salad was being made when I walked in; as I had ordered and paid for it online. The nice woman even added Swiss cheese for me, as I don't like Provolone, which is 1 of the 2 cheeses listed. When I got my salad home, it was big, fresh and YUMMY!! I had to add a little extra dressing from my fridge, as they only give you a tiny container; but I will just know to ask for extra next time. I now have a place for salads and I'm going to bring the family for Pizza & Beer!! 🥗🍕🍺...
Read moreGotta love Jake's! Well crafted, loaded pizzas. Personel is attentive, caring, and careful with special requests like no onions, etc. Prices are reasonable for quality. All Jake's locations and associated properties are great, but this is the Original I believe and the best. Tho I am closer to the Saratoga one I do drive out of my way for this local due to the great product and service. They also have a more extensive menu then Sararoga with yummy burgers, sandwich, and sides. The seating booths lead to privacy yet still a family friendly casual air. It also helps to make the space not overly noisy. So you can hear each other talk. A great place to eat and relax. Only bad is parking can be busy and tight due to being in same parking lot as 24 hr fitness. You will ALWAYS find a parking spot. Just watch for crazy drivers cutting across the parking lot or not watching clearances. Still so worth the effort! ...
