I moved to the Bay area after this shop seemed to have been forced to move into the back, so I don't know what it's like before how it is now.
I moved here from Vancouver, where there are many options for good and authentic jianbing. I myself am a Tianjin native, one of the places famous for jianbing, so I feel like I have some credence to talk about it.
As far as the flavor goes, it's definitely the best I've tried in South Bay. When I tried my first bite for the first time, I thought I had finally found some decent jianbing here with the familiar release of intense flavor and aroma that comes with biting down into a fresh jianbing. Unfortunately it would still fall a bit short of what I would consider to be on the better side of what I've tried in Vancouver. The crisps inside become soggy really quickly, possibly due to the small size of them, so even if you live really close by there's a high chance they'll be completely soft by the time you eat it. I would only get the classic jianbing for this reason, as the other ones seem to compound this problem with the sauce. The dough feels kinda stretchy? I'm used to pure mung bean batter jianbing, but I know different varieties exist so I won't complain too much.
Either way I hope k tea cafe stays around so I can keep occasionally dropping by for jianbing. If you haven't tried it before I would wholeheartedly give my...
Read moreMy wife and I ran into this place looking for a place to relax and grab a quick bite.
This place is likely out new spot on the block. It has good tea, good food and a relaxing atmosphere. The staff was really friendly as well.
We ordered veggie Jiaeing which we will definitely be coming back for. It's like an egg crepe sandwich, and very tasty. We'd highly recommend coming by to try it.
We also ordered a bento box no meat which they were super accommodating about. They didn't have a tofu option but came by after asking if we wanted them to add tofu to it free of charge. We opted not to, but the fact that they asked was really considerate (it wasn't on their menu).
We also got sweet potato fries. They were good albeit under seasoned (wasn't worth losing a star though as they were crispy and tasty, and the rest of the food was amazing)
We also got two of the teas, tropical fruit and orange fruits. The staff was super considerate, explaining how they sweeten and giving good comparisons to be sure the tea was sweetened to our liking.
Overall, our experience was great. Definitely coming back here again over the...
Read moreBoba tea shops are plentiful, but K Tea Cafe stands out for their jianbing (savory Chinese crepe) and quality tea!
I tried four jianbing flavors - classic vegetarian, bulgogi beef, chicken chicken, and braised pork belly. My favorite was the pork belly, but I honestly liked them all. They include crunchy fried wonton sheets and have great flavor from the chili and sweet bean sauce. Next time I’ll ask for extra cilantro, as the brightness worked well with all the umami.
K Tea also serves other street food snacks like popcorn chicken, takoyaki, and fries. The popcorn chicken was extra crispy and had fried garlic slices - so good! I also had the takoyaki and thought that was solid.
But let’s not forget about the tea! They use fresh ingredients - no powder or high fructose corn syrup here. I got the osmanthus oolong and was pleasantly surprised at the rich, floral flavor. Light sweetness actually meant light sweetness too! The aloe was a great alternative to the honey boba and similar to crystal boba in texture.
Service was so incredibly sweet and...
