Ordered veggie wrap, French dip, bacon burger, fries & 2 sides of bacon. Wrap was mostly rice and it was the only warm item. Au jus seems to just be broth. Burger bun, bacon & patty were burnt. Sides of bacon were on the burger & we only got 3 strips total. Each time we go it seems to be more of a disappointment.
UPDATED UPDATED REVIEW: Ordered: #51 Garden burger, #46 Porky Pig (w/ extra patty (+$4) & extra bacon (+$3)), & large fries to go.
I feel weird updating my review so often, but here we go...
The #46 only comes with 2 small pieces of bacon, so I figured I would order with extra this time. I ordered it, was charged for it, but I didn't receive it. Ordered straight from the menu, it should have more bacon on it if it is a bacon cheeseburger. It's like getting a mushroom burger with only 2 slices of button mushroom on it.
I also still have to order the tomato & lettuce on the side (to keep the bun from getting soggy). Even so, the #51 had it on it today, but the #46 had it on the side.
Another thing that strikes me as odd is the inconsistency with packaging to go orders. Sometimes I get the small white to go boxes for the burgers, today I got both in brown rectangular boxes. Fries seems to be typically in a bag, but today they were in the box with the #51. Sometimes the lettuce and tomato on the side are wrapped in aluminum, plastic wrap, sandwich bag, or (today) included in the brown box. The #51 was wrapped in decent quality paper, the #46 was not wrapped.
Also, I went on another occasion. Ordered the French dip sandwich for someone. I was told the sandwich was great, but the au jus was not recommended.
I'm going to keep coming back because the burgers & the fries are good. Due to the lack of bacon on a bacon cheeseburger, the au jus, order inaccuracy & packaging inconsistencies I'm going to dock from food & service
UPDATED REVIEW: Ordered: #45 Chubby Checker with large standard fries to go.
Raised the rating 1 star. Got the burger with the tomato & lettuce on the side. Was told it was much better & the bun wasn't soggy. Fries were cooked great. Everything was hot & approved by the hubby.
OLD REVIEW: Ordered: #45 chubby checker (double cheeseburger), steak fries (lrg), curly fries (lrg), onion rings (sml). I didn't customize any of the items I ordered.
Subtotal: $30
Time: around 1:30pm
Atmosphere: Less than 10 customers. A lot of 50s diner themed decor. Great customer service.
Food overall: All of the food was hot. 3 out of 4 items were correct. I was given sweet potato fries instead of onion rings I ordered. Husband said the price is a bit higher than the quality, but he would be interested in going back.
Burger: He enjoyed the burger, but he said he would have preferred if the tomato was on the side (as advertised), it made the bun soggy.
Fries: Curly fries were a tad over & steak fries were a tad under, but both were...
Read moreI live in So Cal and in Sunnyvale to watch my favorite countertenor Orlinski at the Bing Concert Hall. I was hungry for a good breakfast and saw the “raving” reviews on Peggy Sue American style diner. Was kinda taken back, the diner had a full blown bar, I guess some like eggs and whiskey anyhow the was one guy at the bar, looked like the guys acquaintance and left shortly after. I was the only one in the restaurant at 11am. BAD SIGN! I thought, just ordering breakfast, what could go wrong with eggs. It was raining and so freakin cold yet the inside felt like outdoors. The waiter was Indian descent, he brought me coffee, it was not hot but I was tired and just wanted something kinda warm. I saw on the menu “ eggs and “slab ham”. Now when I order slab ham to me this means a thick slab, not thin, not chunks but SLAB. And my eggs over medium. This is what I got! Eggs over done flattened almost squashed, Ham slab was lost in translation consisted of 5 thin slices of some weird ham which was made up of processed ham which was made from pieces of left over chopped ham with a sour flavor as if slight spoiled and worse than Spam. This slab ham was burnt to the point I was unable to cut it with a knife. Even the simple toast they buttered and globed on after and did not melt because bread was cold. I asked for a warm up for my coffee and the guy took my cool free cup and heated my half filled coffee cup in the microwave, brought back a overly heated half filled coffee cup in which all the creamer floated to the top leaving a residue. Reviews of this restaurant Peggy Sues is fiction. Whomever is making positive reviews must be related . To me The waiter had no common sense, he was not familiar in being a true waiter because he had no clue that I needed a refill on coffee, he was not observant enough to check my food, I guess they do not want to hire people who are more savvy and think all they have to do is booze up the patrons hoping they will be too drunk to realize the food the serve is trash. My recommendation do not patronize. I did pay, but I am the kind of person who is not looking for a freebie . The cook whomever he or she was may have been too drunk to cook or maybe it is not part of his job title. Sell the restaurant and do something else...
Read moreDo not order takeout from here without checking your order in its entirety first. It's painfully apparent that this place and its owners lack attention to detail.
The good: My strawberry-mango shake was 4.5/5, and absolutely worth the money. It's thick in a good way. Apparently you can get the alcoholic version for takeout? The caesar salad had a nice flavor and the chicken wasn't dry.
The bad: The Au Jus in my takeout order didn't include the most critical part: the dip. When I called to request a partial refund, I was told I would need to call back in a week when the manager was in, or drive all the way back from home to get another. Totally unacceptable. If I'd ordered through Doordash instead of buying direct, I'd have my money back by now. Don't run a restaurant without someone on-site who can give refunds! The physical menus have so much JPEG artifacting it's distracting and embarrassing to look at. They should be reprinted by someone who knows what they're doing. The plastic straw provided for the shake was far too thin for a shake that thick, making it entirely useless until the shake melts because it collapses on itself. I replaced it with my own at home.
The mediocre: My cheese steak had dry bread and meat. The sandwiches are not worth the cost. The TV menus behind the cashier display a scaled version of their print menu, making most of the items impossible to read. They handed out physical menus at the front. They should edit the TV menus to be readable highlights or switch those TVs to something better. The only claim to it having 50's diner decor are some posters on the wall. The place was previously Boardwalk Burgers and Fries and looks basically the same as before. It looked like my shake was made immediately after my order, then sat somewhere while the rest of my order was made, ~20 minutes. So all the whipped cream had deflated by the time I left and I didn't even get to sip it...
