Smokey's BBQ — Restaurant in Surf City

Very nice staff but the ribs still had the silver skin on them and I couldn't taste ANY smoke flavor on anything we had. I'm seriously confused how they're was silverskin on the ribs.. That's literally the FIRST step in any cook book or lesson from anyone about how to prepare ribs. An absolute rookie move and I'm shocked I paid so much for something like that at a restaurant. The pulled chicken, ribs or the brisket all were bland.. The chicken didn't taste like anything and the brisket just tasted like roast beef... Thats not bad but it's certainly not what you want when you're expecting BBQ. I would have called to complain but it's Father's Day and I'm NOT driving back to the island to deal with traffic. Brisket was also fall-apart tender, and while I like that in a pot roast... That's WAY too tender for brisket. I read afterwards this is under new ownership, so hopefully they'll figure it out. Me and my buddies work at Harvey Cedars Marina and we get lunch here almost every day. I’m telling you now, that pulled pork in the wrap with the smokies sauce and the macaroni salad is to die for.

As someone who has gotten everything on the menu, there is absolutely nothing that disappoints and your money is very well spent.

I will warn you that smokies food has a 3 stage effect to it and stage one is the anticipation stage where you’re excited to get the food. Stage two is the euphoria stage where you start eating your food and everyone has the same exact reaction, closing your eyes while going mmmmm, honestly this food gets you singing and dancing. Final stage which is what me and my boys call “the itis” I wouldn’t drive during this stage you might fall asleep and hit one of the 500 jay walkers you gotta deal with...

Picked up dinner for my family tonight since we all decided on bbq. first time here at smokey’s and we were all very impressed! I will say one small negative was they forgot 1 side order but stuff happens and we had quite a large order. We tried a verity of items and out favorites were the pulled chicken and brisket. for sides the mac and cheese and bbq beans were hits. cornbread was soft and moist. very pleasant first experience that will definitely have us coming back again.
