Scotty's Beach Bar — Restaurant in Surfside Beach

Terrible service!!! Bartender disappeared for long stretches.

We have been an owner of a place in Garden City for over 30 years (we walk here often). Prior to that, I have been coming to Surfside/Garden City Beach since the 60s. I had my first beer here. I had my first kiss here (not at this particular bar, but in Surfside).

On this visit, we just wanted to pop in and get a well-made drink. Nothing fancy. We don’t like all the silly girly drinks. We certainly don’t want anything blended! Just a good well-balanced rum or tequila drink. it was a nice night. A little breezy. Off-season. We expected some regulars in a not so -busy-bar. I told the bartender that I wanted a little something strong (we’d been driving all day and were struggling with some bad news and I just wanted a little something to take the edge off) and she said “just do a shot.“ I told her I could do a shot back at the house and that I wanted something else, and she kept just saying “do a shot.” There was a person at the end of the bar that she was very actively flirting with, and they were in some sort of drama. He would leave and she would leave for long stretches at a time, leaving the bar completely abandoned. 10 minutes. 15 minutes. He was clearly drunk, and she was not kicking him out, just touching him and flirting with him while a line of people waited for drinks.

Not a very good experience. Still, it was a lovely night outside, so we took our drinks and sat out...

We've been going here for years, however last night will be our final visit. We had a large party of 13; seven of which had never been to Scotty's before. A man (later identified as "Chip" and a part owner) came up to our table, unprovoked, and began to shout "what the hell is the matter with you?", followed by some additional foul and inappropriate language, to a family member who was sitting at a table with the rest of us. We found out that he was upset because a woman from our group was standing while her husband was sitting. As a native of Charleston and current resident of South Carolina I was raised to be chivalrous; however this owner's approach was completely unprovoked and unwarranted. Before we left, I got the opportunity to chat with Chip and get to know him. It was then that I learned he is a part owner of the business and a former resident of Pennsylvania. I told him that his words had completely turned us off from this location and that he had lost our future business. As I tried to walk away, he grabbed my arm firmly and attempted to keep me from leaving. I had to repeatedly tell him to remove his hands from me. Once he did, we left without further incident. In short, it is a shame that one part-owner (and yankee transplant) felt the need to verbally acoste my family member and leave us with such distain for what should be a great...

Decided to return to this place while on vacation, the looks I got were not it but I ordered two drinks, scottys frozen blue razz and Scotty’s lemonade. The drinks were okay but not for me so I asked my ex husband to order two shots of fireball and get some water. When he returned I asked him where my change was so I could leave it for the bar tender in the jar before we left and he informed me he didn’t get change back. So I thought their shots were $10 a piece. No biggie. When I looked at the shot, it was only about half full. Compared to the bar across the street, their shots are only $7-8 and full. When I called them the next day to ask how much two shots of fireball were I was told it was only $13. I’m not too sure why I wasn’t given my change but hopefully they needed it. There was also a woman so drunk she almost fell down the stairs, and before leaving she yelled, “Surfside beach.” So from what I can say is they absolutely over served her.
