
This Thursday we went this place and were asked to leave the place because the waiter denied our request to change a table for social distancing.
In this COV-19 Situation, in the beginning we were arranged at a table where 1 table distance next to another table, we feel okay. However, after we made our order, two new guests entered in the store and they were arranged just RIGHT NEXT to our table, which is no 6 feet social distancing and put totally 8 people sitting in a small corner without any protection to eat.
We felt uncomfortable to sit there , therefore we politely asked the waiter to help us to change the table. However, until now we still can not believe what the waiter told us twice: IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO EAT, YOU CAN LEAVE OUR RESTAURANT. Although he gave some reasons, such as the table is with a half metre partition, however its usefulness for air transmission protection is questionable.
It is our first time to be forced to leave a restaurant embarrassedly. No matter how good the food is, we are not going a restaurant like Chuanyu Hotpot where puts guest‘s health at risk like a joke and where provides this kind of arrogant service.

But after seeing people recommend this place on Xiaohongshu, I decided to give it another shot—and wow, what a pleasant surprise!
Turns out the restaurant now has a new owner from Chongqing, and the flavors are on a whole different level. The lady boss told me she makes the Sichuan Spicy Oil broth herself using real beef tallow, and it takes her several hours to prepare. No wonder I could already smell that rich, mouthwatering aroma before even walking through the door—it was amazing!
We ordered a half-and-half hot pot with Sichuan Spicy Oil (beef tallow base) on one side and Green Sichuan Pepper (House Special) on the other. Everything was super fresh—the Sliced Beef Brisket and Sliced Lamb were must-haves, but my top picks were the Housemade Shrimp Paste, Housemade Fish Paste, Pork Intestines, and Swai Fillet. Every bite was packed with real flavor and texture. The Mini Crispy Pork was also insanely good—crunchy outside, juicy inside!
Service was warm and friendly too. It’s been so long since I’ve had hotpot this authentic—truly a taste of Chongqing! My family and I were beyond satisfied. This place has officially become our new weekly hotpot spot....

(Some people actually called me out bc they had a bad experience) But I honestly think it’s because they don’t know how/what to order.
Chuan Yu offers individual pots and the split pot combo. For best experience, I highly recommend sitting at the table that accommodates the split pot. For broth options, the bone broth and the spicy broth are my go to. The bone broth is soo flavorful and spicy broth is 🔥. I usually get Level 3 spicy but it def leave my 🍑 🔥.
For meats, we always get the pork and beef. Look at the meat quality here!! Guaranteed juicy every bite.
You honestly don’t even need sauce here as the broth is sooo soooo good! But to some people, sauce is life!

As you can see on the menu, they have lots of food to offer. The owners do not speak English very well here (they kinda just nod and smile). So if you want more of something, simply write it on the menu.
