I cannot say enough or what would even amount to the equivalency of what Tibbitts deserves. First the setting. It can and will be whatever you need it to be. Intimate, family, fun. There is so much about the owner and others who have visited on the walls. Old kitchen accessories, pictures and a couple of posters that show their dedication to a certain series Im sure we all binge watched. A very creative space that gives you an insight on the roots attached to Tibbitts, you can smile and nod at the picture of Shawns mom hanging high so she can see her sons dream in action. You can read about Shawns amazing story online on how his dream came true. What an inspiration of love and dedication. I encourage you all to go read it. So when you see the way this man greets his guests you will know a bit of his heart. He definitely enjoys what he does. Art from a local school is beautiful and an added sweet touch. It's like getting an inside peek into someone's life and before you meet them you just admire the living example that they are, living their best life. Second the Crew. With the few staff members they have, they pull it off. Very professional but personable, everyone was a blessing to encounter. My hat goes off to the crew. It makes for a nice at home feel with the limited seating. I see why reservations are required and why Tibbitts is only open on the weekends. Which brings us to the food. The menu is small but it packs a punch with variety and flavor. The stainless steel mugs keep your coffee hot the ENTIRE time. Good portions. Phenomenal flavor. Again, the kitchen crew is legit!!! Everything perfect to the point of heavenly blissfulness. I can say with all that is magical here you will want to come back. P.S. Don't forget to water the plants Shawn....
Read moreI cannot say enough great things about this place. I have known Shawn for decades (Jr. High) and when he first said he would be opening a restaurant, and explained his vision, I will admit, I was a bit skeptical...Supportive, but skeptical. My skepticism was quickly replaced by amazement.
The food...OMG!!! The FOOD!!! For what Shawn is working with, you would never imagine the quality and flavors he turns out. Every dish, and I have literally tried almost EVERY dish, is hands down, the best creation you will have ever experienced. The unique blend of flavors, textures, aromas, and the most fresh, locally sourced ingredients available help him to create the eating experience of a lifetime.
I have referred friends and family and not a single one of them has returned a negative review. And to top it all off, Shawn is a man in love with his community. A true "Tacoma Boy", he loves Fern Hill and Tacoma, he gives back to the community that has lifted him up and supported him as an Entrepeneur. AND...You want a private party? Shawn accommodates. You want catering? Shawn accommodates? There is no ask to great and this man, who is so lovingly passionate about what he does will spare no effort to make it possible.
I cannot recommend TibbitsFernHill enough. If you have not been here, you have been depriving yourself of the greatest dining experience you will find in the city of Tacoma, provided by a man who embodies caring and generosity. By eating here, you will not only be supporting a locally owned small business that supports other locally owned small businesses, you will be supporting the community THROUGH Shawn. DO NOT WAIT ANOTHER SECOND!!! Make that reservation, you will...
Read moreThis place extends beyond just food to people and passion. I left the place wondering why there aren’t more restaurants out there filled with the same energy as here. But the first thing we got to do is make a reservation. It was the easiest thing to do and we got a table in 10 minutes, we showed up in 25 😅. The server, who is also a chef, provided the best service ever. Top notch.
As I was waiting for my food couldn’t help notice the decor of this place, eclectic. As I was looking at the photos on the wall, I couldn’t help but notice that our chef in the kitchen looks exactly like the guy in the picture with a different hairstyle. Halfway through our meal, he introduces himself as the owner, showed us the kitchen and it’s one of those little moments you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Zero waste, fresh ingredients, simple kitchen, community focused.
I was impressed with everything about this restaurant. I remembered he had some videos on his website and just watched them. One of them made me cry so you have to watch it for yourself. Then I looked up the restaurant on YouTube and he shows you how to make some recipes.
I know this is strange for a review but I’m visiting my parents right now and Shawn Tibbitts helped me realize how precious every second is with them. This is all to say, I will try to make the recipe as soon as I get home!
Oh btw, the food is amazing. I don’t understand how it comes out of the tiny simple kitchen. Now go to this restaurant and get the Tibbitts experience. He will 100% come and introduce himself to you
I’ll end this review with parting words Shawn left me with, “All you gotta do is wake up, dress up,...
