My partner and I hosted our wedding reception at Takoma BevCo in December 2021. From start to finish, the quality of service, support, attentiveness, and flexibility made us feel at ease about hosting our reception in this wonderful community space. Justin, our contact at the BevCo/Zinnia enterprise, was amazing. Justin stayed on top of all the little things and made sure we felt comfortable throughout the entire experience. Justin talked through potential menu items and cocktails with us well in advance of our reception, and accommodated our needs to perfection, curating an absolutely amazing menu of drinks and food, and procuring some hard-to-get items based on our preferences. We had our tasting at Zinnia, BevCo's stunning sister restaurant, and we knew right away the food would be a massive hit with our guests--the integration between kitchens at these two restaurants is really cool, and they really paid attention to what we requested for the menu, for both meat eaters and vegetarians.
On the night of our wedding, our guests could not stop talking about the quality of the food and cocktails--there was beautiful balance in the menu, and you could tell the quality of ingredients, especially the proteins, was legitimately top notch. The execution and flow of food throughout the night was simply perfect...and this is coming from a couple of foodies! The cocktails were fun and interesting, and paid homage to our origins and histories, and the bar staff was super engaging. As always, the wines and beers curated by the staff were stunning--BevCo knows its drinks! We worked with BevCo on the space and layout, and they were incredibly flexible and catered to our requests regarding the diverse needs of our guests--the reception felt very warm and hearty, and it set a wonderful ambiance for everyone there.
We hosted our very small wedding during a stressful COVID period, and BevCo was very attentive to our questions regarding vaccinations and mask policies--they were sensitive to pandemic-related matters, and took all possible precautions to protect their staff and us. This meant the world to us.
We are so grateful and happy to have such a wonderful establishment in our community, and could not have been happier with anything on that night. We highly recommend both BevCo and Zinnia (with its beautiful outdoor space) for any event...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhenever I come to the Takoma Beverage Company'cafe, I do not feel welcome by the staff. Unsure if it's because I'm a Black man in a predominately white neighborhood (and I used to live in Takoma Park, so I'm familiar with its population composition), or maybe I'm not their target customer, but this morning was no exception. The keyholder unlocked the door when the cafe opened at 7:30 am, but they didn't even say good morning, just unlocked the door and walked away. When I walked up to the counter and inquired about the texture of the english muffin on their breakfast sandwich (because I recall the bread on a breakfast sandwich I had here previously being dry but flaky and good) and if there was any decaf coffee, I was met with indifference and a lack of concern for answering my questions. This was frustrating and upsetting to me because I was not asking complicated questions, but received what equated to poor treatment as a customer. A previous experience here two years ago involved a white woman with "Karen" tendencies who demanded (not asked) to use the open chair at my table. I felt uncomfortable, especially since this was the height of the racial unrest post-George Floyd. So, I decided to just leave the cafe even though I was in the midst of eating my food and working on my laptop. I alerted my experience to one of the cafe staff before I exited the establishment, in hopes that it would bring about an awareness of a situation that made customers uncomfortable, but they didn't know what to do about that situation. Being back here today just confirms that Takoma Beverage Company is a place that feels hostile, and nothing has changed from my time here two years ago. I won't be patronizing this place again, and I urge management to consider making some staff changes to remove staff who don't give a damn about the customers, especially those of color, who come...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently moved to Takoma and so Iām still trying local shops. Instead of going to one of the cafes Iāve already tried and loved, I decided to try Takoma Bev co. When I arrived the line was long, but I still decided to try it because Iāve been to many busy restaurants that have good customer service and bring food out fast even when they are slammed. Iāll start with the good, my latte I ordered was delicious creamy and came out fast because one of the staff put my order in while I was still in line. Unfortunately the food was an entirely different experience. I ordered the adobo fried chicken wrap to go. After waiting half an hour and still no order, I asked one of the staff if he could check to see where my order was in line and give an eta of when it would be ready. He was very dismissive and rude, nonchalantly and unapologetically saying that they were busy and he canāt do anything for me. Meanwhile, all I asked for was an eta, not to make the food come faster. I was shocked that a) it was taking this long b) the staff was so rude when I simply asked for the status of my order. When I finally got my food, a simple wrap and fries almost 40 minutes after I ordered it, I was underwhelmed with what I got. The fries and the wrap were bland. The wrap also was described as fried chicken, but it was just actually grilled or shredded. I couldnāt even finish it, I ate half and threw the rest away. Thus paying $26 for bland food that took over half an hour and came with rude customer service was absolutely not worth it to me. I should have patronized one of the other local cafes where I can pay the same or less for much better service and more...
