Captain Pete's House of Gyros is owned by a brother and sister team. Not only do they own it, but they also work there 6 days of the week. These are quiet, nice people who work hard to put out a darn good product. I ordered 2 items; The Camel and a special order King Gyro. I like my gyros with cucumbers instead of tomatoes, and was happy when they agreed to the substitution with a smile. The King Gyro is a pretty fine gyro. They toasted the pita, which was a surprise, as so many just use the cold pita right out of the package or slightly steamed. This Gyro was loaded. Gyro meat, onions, plenty of garlicky tzatziki sauce and finished with a hefty amount of feta cheese.
The camel is a whopper of a sandwich, and one I don't recommend you try to eat in your car or while wearing white. It's listed as pepper ground beef, but it's so much more, The sauce is intriguing (and may not be for everyone) reminding me of the minced meat filling found in Moussaka. It has an undertone of cinnamon, or one of the spices in that family. Loads of beef filling, onions, tomatoes and tzatsiki sauce. I added a finishing touch of hot sauce which made this pita a very satisfying sandwich.
I noticed a few reviews where people mentioned high prices and one saying they spent almost $30 on 2 sandwiches. These 2 came to $17, which is on par for most sandwich places that serve hearty selections. These were hearty, filling...
Read moreVERY DISAPPOINTING experience there at Captain Pete's. My wife and I went in, and each ordered a Gyro with a side of pita fries. Gyros took 40+ mins to come out, which is no problem. However, when the waitress dropped them off at our table, she said she would be right back with the pita fries. After about 15 minutes and essentially almost done with the gyros, I went up to the front counter and politely asked the waitress if the pita fries were ready. Rudely, with attitude, she responded, "When they are ready, I'll bring them out!"
Her rudeness wasn't just with us either. We observed her with multiple customers who were there picking up food, and when they would say "Thank you," she would just turn around and walk away. A simple "You're welcome" seems appropriate, yeah? There was also a gentleman at the counter talking to her about something, and she just walked away rolling her eyes. We all have bad days, which is understandable, but it takes a special kind of effort to be as...
Read moreI ordered online at 10:30 and it said the order would be ready at 11:15. When I arrived at 11:15, the doors were locked. When the gal finally arrived and opened the door she was very unpleasant. She asked if I had the large order and when I said "I did", she rolled her eyes and grimaced. I have never seen someone so inconvenienced by me giving them money. She appeared to be the only employee there. The restaurant was freezing because she didn't turn on the heat until she got there. When my order was ready, 45 minutes after it was supposed to be, she said "you need to call the day before. We are too small to do large orders (7 gyros, 2 salads, 1 side salad). I told her I wouldn't be back and she said "that's great." I asked her if this was everything in my order and she said "you'll have to check." When I asked if she really couldn't recall what she just put in front of me, she stomped to the back. I do not recommend. You can find delicious food with appropriate customer...
