After reading about this restaurant in a Tamarac paper and hearing about it in an online local foodies group, I had to try it. Sushi Raku packs small and plays big. The modest menu is not huge, but the items offered are fresh curated and delicious. Assuming you order directly and pickup or eat in, the menu prices are very reasonable. I ordered a few things and the bill was only $20. With that said, the portion sizes are commensurate to the low cost. Think Japanese tapas. The seaweed salad was the standard wakame, and it was as delicious as any other high end sushi place. I tried the Tuna Tataki, which is always a favorite. The portion (and price) was about half of other sushi restaurants, but the quality and plating, especially for takeout, was five star worthy. Next, I tried the Prosciutto Wrapper. I love sliced Parma Prosciutto, and this was no exception. A Fresh ripe avocado slice, a handful of mini asparagus spears, and a bundle of Enoki mushrooms were each wrapped with a generous slice of the salt cured meat. But the coup de gras was the "special sauce" - a doctored mayo, worthy of putting on anything to elevate it to culinary heaven. Finally, I had one of the small Hosomaki rolls, my personal go-to, Hamachi (yellow tail) with added scallions. It was as good as expected, perfectly prepared, fresh and delicious. Their menu tauts the restaurant as the "Best Japanese Food In Town." There's some strong competition for that title, so I'm not so sure about that - but if we're talking about Tamarac, then it's a definite contender. I already have my list of items picked out to try on my next visit, which I am anxiously anticipating (including the steamed pork gyoza, and the salmon carpaccio with garlic, truffle oil, and...
Read moreSigh. It pains we to write this. I visited on a whim after work to satisfy a sushi craving I had. I saw a review of this place online and I figured why not. I ordered the mexican roll, eel roll, salmon and avocado roll, 1 piece of toro roll, and a sake . Here's the good and the bad: . Good: The ppl were who worked their were so nice and welcoming! Small place, clean and cozy. The sake I ordered was beautiful. . Bad: The sushi was tasteless. Some parts of my eel was tough, the shrimp tempura in my Mexican roll seemed stale, like they pre fried it hours ago to save time. It came with a spicy mayo that I dipped it in just to add some excitement in my mouth. I NEVER dip sushi in mayo. Never. However this time I needed to save my dish. The toro kinda gossed me out. It was slimy and so chewy. I decided to throw it away. . The wrap up: As I mentioned before the ppl were super nice. Would I go back no. Should you try it? 🤷🏾♀️ IDK. Maybe it was just me. $37 to $40 bucks later I was still craving sushi. Stay...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite sushi spots and we come here regularly! The salmon lover roll is my go to. I’m giving 5 stars because it’s amazing, but I wanted to leave feedback for management, and couldn’t find an email address to communicate this privately. It might be worth reviewing who worked on July 21st in the evening. We ordered two rolls and they were put together so sloppily. It still tasted good, but it was our first disappointing experience after many successful visits. The restaurant also had a weird smell, so something definitely seemed off. We will for sure give y’all another chance, and hopefully the 5 stars convey we’re true fans. But I wanted to leave this feedback because I would hate to return and face a similar outcome. We searched hard to find this awesome sushi place in our area, and don’t want to be on the hunt for another...
