Just saw a video for Veterans Park and it looked super cool. The selling point was definitely the swing coaster. Something different and fun!
Kids were off from school today so we decided to stop by. We went around 2 PM on a Thursday. Terrible idea because it was the hottest part of the day. Ha. When we drove up to the park, we realized we weren't the only ones with this idea. Lots of families and kids here today. Naturally.
The parking was pretty bad. There were only enough spots for maybe 15-20 parking spots. All of the spots were full and on top of that, cars were parked alongside the curb as well because the place was packed. Luckily, we were able to get a spot as someone was leaving just when we pulled up. Parking karma.
This is a beautiful park that literally just opened a few days ago on Aug 30th. They are having the Veterans Park Grand Opening on Sat, Oct 5th. That probably explains the City of Sunrise tents set up for the weekend event.
There is a sign as you walk into the park that says "Shade Canopies Coming Soon." And trust me, they definitely need the canopies because it was so uncomfortable today in this heat and humidity. I would suggest getting here earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's cooler weather.
This park has lots of cool play areas for small kids and big kids. They are also picnic tables and benches around the perimeter of the park for parents to sit and watch their kids. Many unique play areas all in all.
As for the main attraction, the swing coaster, the concept is cool. However, there was a long wait. I felt like I was at Disney. Just kidding. Maybe. There is point A and point B. There were about 10 kids waiting on each side. The swings aren't very easy to navigate for little kids, so they will probably need help from their parents or older siblings. Also noticed the swing wasn't very smooth and could probably use some WD-40. Lol. No, seriously though.
I know they just opened and are still working on last minute kinks and changes. Please be patient. In the meantime, enjoy the beautiful park. It's a lot of fun! Just go when it's cooler out. Otherwise, you might faint from heat exhaustion. Stay...

The new City of Sunrise Veterans Park honors the U.S. Military with an elevated memorial monument. The parking lot has designated spaces reserved exclusively for combat-wounded veterans. Next to the memorial is a labyrinth, an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness combining the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have a long history as meditation and prayer tools in memorials.
Veterans Park also has paved walkways, a remembrance pavilion, picnic tables, benches, a restroom, and a boundless playground with a zip line, netted spinner, net and slide climber, spinning spinner, swings, rope pyramid climber, embankment slide and rope climber.
The grand opening of the park will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 9 am to 12 pm with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 am followed by a free BBQ lunch. The first 200 attendees will receive a commemorative coin and T-shirt. Parking for the event will be available at the Faith Center, located at 5555 NW 95th Avenue. You can walk over to Veterans Park or ride the...
Read moreDid the concrete work for the playground equipment. The Land was the last in Sunrise FL to be developed. It was also the last refuge for the Seminole and Tequesta Native people from the Spanish as it was all Everglades. On the site when I first got there, underneath a tree lay a huge rock. As I got closer I was amazed as it just sat there with no one else seeming to understand what it is. I have many pictures of this as it was excavated many a very down from what I was told. It was very clear to me it is a stone anchor. Hole on top with ware from a rope or chain and bevelled at the bottom. The thickness of this was if I put my arm through the top hole it is past my elbow. On this site many things happened from mechanical failure from different brand new machines, ppl hitting gas lines, to a guy getting caught on fire! This site is used to pay homage to American Military Vets built on the Land the Native peoples were slaughtered as it was the last refuge. Ironic and it is true as I researched it yrs ago when working on the site. Sounds like it is on purpose, we as mankind...
