I went for dinner with a friend and was DISCRIMINATED against today and asked by the manager/owner who was not there m, but saw us in the camera, to leave because I had a “service dog”. The waitress asked me for a service dog ID. Which shows how uneducated they are about ADA act and service animals. You don’t have to have an ID for service animals or even a vest indicating so. However my dog has a service dog vest & I had an ID made precisely due to the ignorance that unfortunately exists. Most of the restaurants, movie theaters, hotels, and establishments etc etc i’ve gone to have never asked for ID. Because they know the law & know what questions they can ask. I told the waitress we would not leave so to call the police. In fact I called the police twice myself to make sure they would come. She said m the manager/owner did too. I told the waitress I had no intention to stay there and was never going to come back to this place, that I would leave as soon as the police arrived and I could speak to the police and get a report. I needed to make sure I had that report because I know my rights!! Restaurants have a right to refuse service to anyone and they use this as an excuse to “discriminate” against me for my service dog. However under federal and florida law is against the law to discriminate someone for having a service dog under the ADA act. The manager/owner clearly violated the ADA “”They explicitly asked me to leave because of my service dog and told the police they wanted me to leave due to my service dog””. When the police arrived the Manager lied to the police and told him we made a scene, which is a complete lie! And there are videos to prove this. We sat there the whole time waiting for the police. We were upset and refused to leave but we never screamed or did any scenes. The ones making the scene were the waitresses all agitated walking back and forth on the floor with the owner/manager on the phone talking out loud & asking us to leave. My dog is 16 years old and has a heart condition and needed water. The manager refused to let the waitress sell us a bottle of water while we were waiting. They said absolutely not. My friend had to go across the street to buy water for my dog who was extremely thirsty and heavily breathing due to his heart medication. he needed water or he could have had a heat stroke. This is beyond discrimination is cruelty! I have a calm & sweet small dog that is well behaved and did absolutely nothing wrong. They were horrible !! Even denying a bottle of water we were going to pay for. The manager told the police they have lost business because of service animals. I have gone to many restaurants, way better established in Westshore, Hyde park with my service dog and was never refused service. And their businesses are thriving. My dog was not bothering anyone. If their business is being impacted is definitely due to how they manage it. Read their negative reviews not one due to service dogs. The police was the one who told me all these things the owner told him. The police told me clearly I had nothing to worry about, that my dog was well behaved and they know we did not make a scene. The police wrote a full report so I could use it to follow suit and a formal complaint against the establishment for violating the ADA protection act, which I would do. I’m also filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I’m also Calling the Disability Rights Florida hotline to report this. And will be reporting this to the news media as well. Is unacceptable AND ILEGAL to discriminate against a person for bringing a service dog. And if they are doing this to me, I’m sure they’ve done it to others and they’ll continue doing it to other people protected under the ADA act. So that is the only reason why I will pursue every avenue I have to ensure this establishment educates themselves and stops discriminating people with legitimate service animals. There are penalties for violating the...
Read moreFirst and foremost, I would like to start off by saying that Cuenelli’s was both my girlfriend and I’s favorite rotisserie location in all of Tampa since we’ve moved here in 2016. However, I must say that I am ashamed to find out that the prices on the Family Combo skyrocketed to $32.99. This is just insane. I ended up buying 2 not realizing the $8 price hike and have never felt so ashamed to see that I spent close to $100 on both combos. I had also bought two bottles of yellow and green ahi that I’ve always enjoyed. Only to find out that the bottle has now shrunk and the price went up on that as well (Please see image before and after). It’s such a shame because I can understand inflation but there are other rotisserie places nearby that also increased their combos but nowhere the percentage Cuenelli’s raised it by. At some point, it becomes a matter of using the inflation model to take advantage of your customers. I have this upset feeling knowing how much I just spent in this place I used to love. I could’ve used that $100 to go eat at a Brazilian steakhouse. When I came back to show my gf the receipt, she was stunned which added more to the embarrassment. I was also saddened to know that friends that I had introduced to Cuenellis stopped going there due to the costs. I immediately called them and they said “That’s why we stopped going there”. You are better off getting a rotisserie combo from El Tipico Criollo where the combo is still at respectable price post inflation. FYI, this review hurt my...
Read moreWe're big fans of Peruvian cuisine, so based on the rave reviews we ordered carry-out to try Cuenelli's signature dish: plain rotisserie chicken; no sides or anything. I drove up and my wife and daughter went inside to pick up our meal and pay. My wife was caught off guard by the iPad based payment system asking "how was your service?" not knowing this was linked to preset tip amounts, she gave them a nice review. I totally get it, and the numbers do line up with what would be generous tips for seated service, but for carry-out? No way. Next thing you know the receipt included a $6 tip, for just carry-out chicken mind you. When she inquired about if this could be fixed the employee became upset and shouted at another one for help saying "this lady doesn't want to pay the tip!". Yes, in front of everybody. Look, I understand tips, our base tip for sit-down meals is 20%, but for a simple carry-out we generally just give about $2-$3 unless the order is large or complicated. Mistakes happen, but the employee was quite rude in how she handled my wife's inquiry. To make matters worse, the chicken, while seasoned well, was on the very small side (think cornish hen), and sadly, quite mushy. In all honesty, Pollo Tropical gets the texture well above what they achieve here. And PT is not even my favorite chicken in town, just mentioning it as a well-known example. The green and yellow side sauces were good (nowhere near what my Peruvian friends make at home though). Location looks nice and prices are...
