Edit: after talking to the manager on the phone they said they bake everything Daily and do not freeze over night… so I think their display case is not properly sealed or it is left open through out the day which makes it taste funky. Short summary: Everything looks beautiful! They have some really good items some I would say are best in Tampa But some items are so bad I’ve wasted more than half a box throwing away. DO NOT order anything with hard icing on it. It tastes very funky and I gave my family those items and imediately their faces scrunched in disgust. Those items are old and the icing absorbs the smell of the bakery making it taste funky Long summary: I’ve been here 3 times. The first time I bought a smiley face cookie because it was so cute and I wasn’t expecting much so I didn’t think anything when the icing tasted weird.the cookie itself was moist but it has a good crunch because of the icing and if you could get past the weird taste it was a pretty good cookie! The second box I ordered a few days ago and got tiramisu, ricotta cheese slice, ding dong, lazy Susan and another caramel wafer cake with this cute cherry on it. I was amazed by how pretty everything was! I started with the tiramisu and it was perfect! I took it home and put espresso on top and had a wonderful time with it. It made me so sad because I started with the best item and as I kept going it just got worse and worse. The caramel wafer cake and the ricotta slice were very hard but none the less tasted good. I’ve eaten older things so honestly for the price I paid it was okay. The ding dong and the lazy Susan both had very hard icing on it and as soon as I dug in, I got that nasty taste from the sugar cookies! It was really gross and I threw it away. Today I stopped by because I was craving tiramasu. It’s my favorite cake at any location I just love it! So today I got that and two cakes next to in in the display counter. After eating them I realized it’s not entirely just the hard icing. I think something is wrong with their display counter or they just aren’t selling good so a lot of their stuff is old. On every occasion the tiramasu was good but I highly reccomend they reduce their menu and just stick to things they sell best so that they don’t develop a...
Read more( the pics that are posted with my review are from when the Perrone's still made them) I have purchased baked goods from Housewife Bake Shop since 1988. I feel confident to say I know what my favorites from there should taste like. Their Guava and cheese pudding was one of them. A rich creamy texture of pudding with the guava and cheese and just enough breading to hold it together. We tried it 2 times after the Bidone's took over from the Perrone's, but it was awful. It was mostly cinnamon bread baked in a tin with a dollop of guava and dollop or 2 of cheese. It was so disappointing and when I asked about it the second time, I was told it was the same recipe because they had purchased the original recipes. Maybe purchased but not used. That same day we purchased the guava and cheese pudding we bought a new item. I can't remember what it was, as this was a few months ago, but it tasted like it was the exact same cinnamon bread used in the pudding. Both were a huge disappointment. We also loved the Perrone's Cuban sandwiches, but the Bidone's now uses some kind of baguette ... This was a poor choice, and now it's not the Cuban Tampa Bay and Housewife bake shop are know for. The other 2 items we loved were fruit bars and cinnamon rolls. The fruit bars are a sad attempt ... dry and over cooked and missing something. And the cinnamon rolls are the same. Definitely missing a key ingredient, and tasteless compared to how they use to be. I was so happy when I heard they would not close and bragged to our out of town friends their favorite pastries would still be served at my home when they visit, but it is in reality not true. Bidone's Housewife bakery and cafe definitely is not living up to the standard set by the Perrone's Housewife bake shop. The Perrone's need to come back long enough to show them how to make these...
Read moreI had written a review about this place yesterday, however I don't see it up anymore.. So, here I go again.
well, let me just start by stating that I am a Seminal heights resident and I have been coming to "House Wife Bakery" for 20 years. Since they have been bought out, This " House Wife Bakery" is NOT what we, the people of Tampa, know it to be.
We use to come here to get lovely party of ones and German chocolate cake along with all the other sweet little treats. This will be a NO more!
I came here on Saturday to pick up a German chocolate cake, They were friendly, but don't be fooled Tampa. when I got home, The cake was as hard as a Red Brick. No exaggeration, Please be warned Tampa. Do not waste time or money.
I called them as soon as I noticed the brick cake, to inform them that the cake was expired, They wanted me to bring the cake back ;0/ . I will not bring anything back, for what? so they can put it back on on the shelf?
or am I just a lair? Am I just wanting to get over on the measly $10.00 I spent. This place is now a huge Disappointment, what was once a happy, warm and inviting place to stop in and become a kid again, is now a nightmare on Elm street. Run, Run, as fast as you can!
