Rocky's Tacos Tampa — Restaurant in Tampa

1/28/22: unfortunately I have to updated my review and knock off a few stars. I pulled into the parking lot where the taco truck is on W Hillsborough and got out of my car to order. THE WHOLE TIME I was pulling in and getting ready to get out of my car, the older man running the truck last night was standing in front of my parking spot and staring at me WITHOUT EVER LOOKING AWAY. He was staring at me with a piercing gaze and It was extremely uncomfortable for me. This is not how you treat your female customers. Very inappropriate and I really hope he doesn’t do this to every customer that pulls up to order. I made a comment about this to one of the friends that came with me last night and she affirmed that he had made her feel like that every time she went to get Rocky’s tacos. Not sure I will be returning to this place. I don’t need that viejos verde making me feel like this and then give them my money.

So good! Authentic Mexican tacos. Their salsas are so good too. Family owed local business. Great service and friendly staff. There’s really no ambiance, only one table with some plastic chairs in a parking lot next to a food truck. But that’s okay, the food is so good. I also had the horchata...

We've been trying various Mexican food trucks in the area. Rocky's is good. Perhaps not the best in the local area, but very good.

Rocky's may have the most flavorful beef tacos - asada and campechana. However, the seasoning for the chicken tacos wasn't our favorite. The seasoning was a bit heavy on the tomato and was meant to be a bit spicier but it didn't quite pull it off. The beef, on the other hand, was cooked well and flavored so it was really the highlight of the taco.

The tacos were also not entirely traditional - with just onions and cilantro. They were topped with cheese and lettuce. However, the sauteed green onions were a nice touch and were quite flavorful.

Rocky's probably wins on the presentation of the tacos and the seasoning for the asada and campechana tacos was particularly impressive. If the chicken tacos - which is the only meat my wife will eat - were better seasoned, Rocky's would be right at the top.

As far as service, they were great. Not the fastest, but quick. The tacos are a bit more expensive than other places, but not too much...

Rocky's Tacos is easily one of the best tasting and most consistent kitchens in the Tampa Bay. It's without a doubt the best value of anywhere I've ever frequented. After discovering this spot a few months after moving here, it's become a part of my weekly routine, getting a few tacos to split with my roommate in-between classes or after work. When I was out of state for a few months this past summer I found myself missing Rocky's, as no other restaurant I could find anywhere could replicate the quality of this place. If you're visiting the Tampa area or if you're a resident, I would highly recommend Rocky's! I'm a very lazy person and never write reviews, but this place warranted a short novel, the Al Pastor...
