I would give zero stars if I could. When we first visited this shop a couple of weeks ago we dined in. There was a very nice older lady who greeted us and came around to our table to check on us a couple of times which was nice but our waitress basically ignored us and acted as if we were intruding on her time. We shrugged it off because the food was good and reasonably priced. We have since visited there twice and ordered by phone for pick up. Both experiences were terrible. The first order placed felt rushed which again I shrugged off because I knew the food was good and reasonably priced. I was quite disappointed to find that when I got home both mine and my daughter’s sandwich were very sloppy. The lettuce and tomato were wilted as if they had been sitting for a while. The meat was dry as if it had been sitting out and the bread was not fresh. We again shrugged it off because I figured maybe it was a one off. We gave them another try today and I will never go back. The person taking my order today was very rude. On the first call she rushed me through my order. Shortly after making the first call I had to call back to add on - purchasing a total of seven sandwiches. I understood that it was a large order and would take time but the woman kept telling me that I would have to go back to the bottom of the line in order for me to get my order. It didn’t bother me that my order would be pushed because again I had a large order and I did have to call back to add to it - however the way she said it and the way she kept repeating it made me feel like I was bothering her by calling at all. Once again I shrugged it off and figured (hopefully) the food will be better today and it won’t be that big of a deal because again they are very reasonably priced and I understand they are very busy. When I arrived to pick up the order I was again greeted by what sounded like the same rude person that I spoke to by phone. Not only was she chastising other customers as they asked about the status of their orders BUT she was again very rude to me. She again chastised me about having multiple orders and because I asked her to clarify what a “steak sandwich” was since we had only been there a couple of times and I’m not super familiar with the menu. I then witnessed her go to the area where the young lady was making the sandwiches and pick up my sandwiches from a bottom area. As she was bringing them up, the brown bags they were in broke and my wrapped sandwiches fell to the floor. She picked them up and put them on the torn bags and then proceeded to throw the entire bag that had just fell on the floor on top of the open bread that was sitting on the counter. I made up my mind in that moment that I would not return - but now that I’ve gotten home and my family has began eating the sandwiches I KNOW FOR SURE I will never eat there again. The food was not fresh AGAIN and it was thrown together. My husband ordered a tripleta sandwich that was NOT a tripleta. and then to top it off my son found a hair in his sandwich! NEVER AGAIN!!!! ——— UPDATE: Of the 5 people who ate (part of - no one finished it) the cuban, 4 of us have had stomach issues. The 5th didn’t eat the meat because it looked bad and he did not get a sick like the rest of us. Buyers beware! Make sure the food is FRESH if you are going...
Read moreNOT EVEN My DOG WOULD EAT THIS CRAP!!!!!!! I have eaten in Tampa Spanish restaurants all my life (40 years) First , the waitress spoke no English nor did she try to communicate in English at all! Then there was the food, I ordered the Pollo Milenisa with yellow rice and plantains First the chicken was so overcooked that I had to cut off the edges to get to an edible part, there was almost no tomato sauce and the chicken was a step above T.V. dinner quality. In fact thats what it tasted like was a tv dinner breaded chicken. The rice had spots where it was dry and stuck together and also inedible. The plantains which are normal a little slimy and soft (as they should be) were over cooked and dry as a bone! Speaking of bones I usually take my left over's to my dog it was not even worthy to be taken home to my dog! I also ordered Ham Croquettes , they were undercooked and looked they had been microwaved, mushy, no crispy outside. My Mother who goes in there regularly got breakfast and her eggs were cold and instead of pancakes she wanted toast , however our waitress could not get that straight with her inability to speak any English. The Cuban bread was also cold! SO upon leaving i was very displeased and when we rang up our $24 bill I scoffed and told the owner about how bad the food was. He did not seem to care at all, didn't seem surprised I said it. gave us no discount nor did he offer us a dessert or coffee in lieu of a discount for the poor quality of food and service. He did apologize without looking at us and while he took our money and then apologized again with his back turned to us, he seemed to be very fake and di not care about one unhappy new customer or an unhappy existing customer. Go to La Teresita it is much better faster and fresher. And the staff and owners are very nice and concerned about their customer base. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON Big Girl Andy and his sorry...
Read moreGreat piece of West Tampa history! It's easy to miss it if you're not looking for it. Parking is at a premium and if you get a spot at the restaurant you need to go play the lottery! But, not too worry because there's a vacant lot 1 block South of the sandwich shop that they have as overflow parking. The walk is refreshing and helps to walk off that full feeling.
This place has everything you want in a Mom & pop local meeting spot. The locals pile in to meet daily for a cup of delicious cafe con leche and Cuban toast for dipping in the coffee. At first glance you will probably have to search to find a table in this tight, but comfortable little sandwich shop. But, don't be intimidated, find your seat and prepare to be delighted.
Their breakfast special, "The West Tampa Breakfast", is a filling bargain. Comes with eggs (I don't remember how many eggs they claim to give you, but I had to have had at least 3 scrambled eggs on my plate!) any way you like them, choice of meat between ham, bacon or links, Cuban toast, 2 pancakes, cup of grits and a cafe con leche. They serve their cafe con leche old school by bringing you a cup of steamed milk along with a cup of the espresso coffee and you mix together and add sugar to your liking.
Our server is always smiling and never stops running from the kitchen to the dining area serving all kinds of delicious Latin fare. The Cuban sandwich is the favorite among the patrons, but they have a huge menu varying from breakfast items to Cuban specialties.
This place definitely focuses on getting you fed and quickly I might add. Taking out time we are usually in and out within 45 mins. We never feel rushed to leave as many, like myself, enjoy savoring the delicious cafe con leche after a meal.
Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. It will...
