I'm a bit torn on this place as I really, really wanted to love it and was excited to stop in. The dรฉcor and concept is really cool!
The drinks, along with the atmosphere, I expected to be the stars of the show.
They have several great craft beers on tap at $7 and more of the domestic stuff in bottles and cans. Unfortunately the standard cocktail menu was quite small ~9 drinks and all but one was a wine based cocktails (sangrias, vermouth, pinot grigio, etc..) I didn't realize but maybe this place is more of a wine bar than craft cocktails? The only non-wine drink was a vodka cranberry (fairly basic drink) - now granted they do a really cool smoke bubble on top! The also do mimosas and dessert wines.
Their specialty menu at the moment was a "Tiki" menu. It had about 4 additional drinks. Unfortunately it was not the classic or modern tiki versions. More in line with the ultra-sweet 80s-90s tiki that saw the decline vs. the very alcohol forward classics.
Space: the size of the place is adequate for a small bar, but not very large. Several of the seats are down a wall outside of the kitchen where you can't see the bar.... and therefore, the corresponding cocktail show that comes with the special drinks. So if you want that version of the entertainment you'll need to sit at the bar instead of one of the tables.
The bartender and service was really great and they were super nice.
We didn't stay and try the food but from all the pictures, it looks really good.
I'm hopeful they'll go with a revamped craft cocktail menu and we'll come back and give it another try.
The atmosphere, music, and the service was top notch! If wine is your thing and you want a cool place to sip, this is the place! If you are looking for craft cocktails you probably want to...
ย ย ย Read moreVisiting family in Tavares and was looking for a place to go hang out with another couple in town. Saw the pictures and was intrigued. This place did not disappoint. The location was small and intimate. Service was great and friendly. Be aware that many of the wine cocktails leaned towards the sweet side which the husbands enjoyedI I was very impressed by the Spanish wine + coke mix! Who would have thought this would taste good! I leaned more towards the dry red side and very much enjoyed the quantum leap cab. The appetizers were surprisingly tasty and all seems like they were made fresh. The lighting and jazzy music were fitting and wrested a great atmosphere. This will definitely be the go to place when we come back for...
ย ย ย Read moreMy husband and I had the pleasure of enjoying an incredibly relaxing evening at the Argonaut. The Argonaut is a lounge unlike any other in Tavares. Swanky, unique and leaning toward sophisticated, the Argonaut offers a thematically curated, visually pleasing, relaxed environment. Guest may lounge at the quaint bar or choose the more secluded vintage style seating. We opted for the latter. The beautiful menu found at each table offers a tidy assortment of thoughtfully selected, expertly prepared cocktails. Ours were elegantly served and delicious. We will be returning with family and friends seeking something a bit more sophisticated. The Argonaut is a small, cozy lounge. Arrive early if you want to...
