Bierkeller Tavern & Eatery — Restaurant in Taylor

I don't know what happened to Bierkeller. A few months ago, I would've recommended this bar to you and toasted to your health there alongside you. Since then, they've fallen from where they used to be.

Bierkeller serves excellent food, but it is bar food. If you are looking for an authentic German experience, there may be better German-themed restaurants out there. I've tried several items on the menu and the majority of what you will receive is tasty, filling, and fairly-priced. Sometimes the kitchen makes mistakes.

The service used to be excellent. If you weren't eye-twitchingly annoying or needy in that you ordered something that you didn't like and refused to pay, or couldn't understand that there were more people in the restaurant other than you, the staff was always ready to collect your order, top you off, or get your bill to you. Now? If they get to you, they get to you. If.

The atmosphere? Toxic and dirty. If you walked into the tavern and eatery on a Wednesday evening, plenty of obnoxious individuals will be laughing and clapping their hands repeatedly (?), while others will be hollering at one another as loud as they are able to in order to transmit their message across the pleasantly-sized tables. It doesn't help that the music is way too loud, nor does it help that several of the customers reach out to grope the waitresses and nothing is done about it. Want to sit at a surface where the table isn't lathered with a layer of film of a mysterious adhesive? You won't get it. (Who wants to dine, let alone work, in this kind of irritating establishment where people can't keep their hands to themselves or where you're unable to hear their order?)

Bierkeller is a "young people" bar now. Do not go if you want to enjoy a good conversation with your friends. Do not go if you want timely service and first-rate food. Do not go if you want a good place to work. Go if you don't care to know what your date has to say or perhaps want to annoy them with sticky tables and a headache. Maybe someday Bierkeller will return to the pleasant, professional environment where skilled and experienced staff serve you, but I doubt it. There are some good employees that have come and gone here. But they're gone...

This was my first time to Bierkellers. I had read a lot of great reviews and my buddy has been here before and told me it was great too. I was not let down!

I went just after 1230pm on a Friday. It was busy when we got there but not packed. Angelina was our server and whole she was alone the service was still not bad. I think there could have been another server to make things go along faster, but she handled it very well.

I ordered a pretzel sticks to share with my buddy. When they arrived I was surprised at how big they were. They were soft and very hot and fresh. The beer cheese was so good I could drink it! It came with course ground mustard too, which was also very good. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the pretzel sticks. Next time!

My buddy ordered a bowl of chili and a container sandwich with house made chips. I tried a chip, and it was very good. Crisp. And fresh. He said the sandwich was good.

I ordered a cup of chili and the wurshten plate. It's the sausage fest plate. The types of sausage, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and two types of mustard. If you like sausage, this is the dish for you. It doesn't look like a lot on the plate, but I didn't finish it. Leftovers!

Overall, this place has a nice cozy dim lit atmosphere. Tables with benches. It's a German bar hall atmosphere with some great food! Very nice staff!!

Don't water your time with a cup of chili... Get the BOWL!!!

3.5 stars here. Good meal at a noisy beer joint. Be aware that though they want you to think it’s a German menu, the food is, for the most part, not. They have spaetzle, schnitzel, and one dish with kielbasa but there are no other menu items I would consider German. Why no sausage plates-kielbasa, brats, wursts, etc. Gotta have these to really be a German restaurant. I don’t do beer so I can’t attest to the number of German suds but I did enjoy a tasty peach cider. Our food was quite good and seems clear the kitchen knows what it’s doing. My wife had a very nice Rueben sandwich served with run of the mill chips. Great portion of corned beef with nice balance of sauerkraut and Russian dressing. I chose a large garden salad that was above average due to its freshness and the inclusion of sliced cucumber which you don’t see every day. To add to that I ordered something I love but you don’t see very often, Scotch Eggs. Hard boiled egg encased in sausage, breaded in some cases, then baked (or fried). These were very well done compared to some I’ve had. Two of these, sliced in half and drizzled with a light mustard sauce. Also topped with some smoky bacon bits. Would definitely order these again. Negatives were the intense volume of the music in the night were were here. Difficult to communicate with anyone. Also the service on our visit was spotty. Only came sporadically and needed to flag him down a couple of times as he wizzed by without a glance. Real potential to be better with...
