Southern Angel Donut Co. — Restaurant in Taylortown

My 10 yr old daughter didn’t have school today. I was off work today so we had a daddy/daughter day planned. The first thing she wanted was donuts. We live close to SA so we went on over. We ordered two frosted donuts with sprinkles, a medium coffee and a milk. The woman behind the counter stated that she ‘thought’ they were out of milk. I asked if they were out or not, and she just replied with ‘I think we’re out’. At this point I turned and saw a glass front cooler with various juices, etc in it. So I asked if the milk would be in there. When she said yes I stepped over to look. There was one half empty open white milk, and another unopened one that expired on 9/1 (today is 9/23). So I said: ‘well there’s one in here, but it’s three weeks out of date’. The reply was: ‘your total is $4.62’. No apology, no nothing about the milk. I pay and take my coffee cup to go fill up at the urns. The cup of dark roast I got was half grounds. Poured that into the trash, rinsed out the extra grounds from the bottom of the cup, and filled up with medium roast. No grounds in that. Added some half and half while wondering about it’s expiration date. Then we left, went up to the gas station, bought a chocolate milk (good till mid October), and enjoyed our donuts at one of the outside tables close to the gas station. The donuts themselves are fine. But seriously, you can’t even acknowledge the expired milk and coffee ground shooting urn? I’m done. I had experienced stale donuts from here back over the summer, but gave it another shot because someone had mentioned that these were the best in town....

This is a cozy little donut shop, that offers great tasting donuts! The plain glazed donuts are the closest saying I found to Round Rock Donuts world famous Donuts since I've been here in North carolina. If you know about Round Rock donuts, come check this place out! If you have ever been in a hail storm with softball size hailstones coming down, or been inside of a tornado greater than F4, then you will really come to appreciate the weather here in the Sandhills of North carolina. Very mild the weather is here, and that is a great relief during the Spring time. Sometimes in Texas, actually 6 months out of the year the weather gets very hot during the daytime. I'm talking 105° by 3:00 in the afternoon. I'm talking 98° by 11:00 in the morning. Sometimes it's so brutal outside you can even leave the house during the day until the sun goes down at night. At that point even after the sun goes down it's still 95° and by the time you wake up in the morning the temperature has only dropped to 89. So, needless to say Southern Angels Donuts has some really good Donuts and you don't have to deal with the crazy weather that comes along with Round Rock donuts! Sometimes I try to feed these Donuts to my cat but he won't eat them. He's pretty picky and he only likes cat food. His name is buster. Other than buster, every single person I've ever known absolutely loves...

Southern Angel Donuts: Located in the heart of Pinehurst, NC, Southern Angel Donuts serves all of Moore County using old world recipes and hand formed techniques. The shop offers a plethora of interesting flavors, but seeing as I had a lot of food to try while visiting the area, I kept it to one. Peanut butter is a relatively unique flavor and one of my favorites from other doughnut shops that I've visited. I thought the texture of this yeast doughnut was exemplary as it was airy with a nice amount of chewiness. The dough itself had a nice buttery flavor, but I know what you all care about is that peanut butter frosting. That's where things begin to go a bit south as the peanut butter frosting was good, but just too mild of a flavor. A suggestion I have based on some of the best doughnut shops in the country that I've encountered would be filling the doughnut with a peanut butter frosting. That would definitely take this doughnut to the next level. It was still a nice dessert to have with my breakfast and for the price wasn't bad. Comparing it to some of the other peanut butter doughnuts I've consumed though, this one is just...
