I've been wanting to try this place out for a while, and it was worth the wait. They're only open Thursday - Saturday, so I stopped on a Thursday around 2pm. There was only 1 other couple in the dining room. You order & pay, outside where the menu is, then you can either sit outside if the table is available, or you can go inside to the dining room. I got the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and hush puppies. They have canned drinks you can order, but they said I could bring my bottled water in. The dining room isn't very big, so I'm not sure if it gets crowded on the weekends, but you can always get it to go. Everything tasted great! The only thing I could complain about, is the can of Coke wasn't very cold, but I'm used to drinking things ice cold. The other couple had the sampler plate, & they said everything tasted fantastic. I didn't use the restroom while I was there, but they did assure me they had one, so I'm not sure why some reviews are saying they don't. I'll check it out next time. The owner & the guy who brought out my food were extremely friendly, & they checked on me several times. He told me that Jimmy Fallon actually ate there, while he was making a movie with Dolly Parton. I didn't see any celebrities while I was there, but I heard others have popped in as well. I'm definitely going back to try their other BBQ items. My only suggestion, would be to have some light music playing in the dining room. It was so quiet in there, I could hear...
Read moreMy two stars are for the incredibly nice owners. If it weren't for them, I'd give one, or negative stars if I could. This is hard to write, as I don't want to hurt their business. However, I saw plenty of people coming in and out while here, and based on reviews, the locals love their cooking.
I was put off by seeing Great Value fries, which tasted baked and barely warm. My husband saw the gentleman putting Kraft BBQ sauce in to-go cups. Maybe they doctor up Kraft's sauce, I'm not sure... Just reporting what we saw. They were out of burnt ends, among other things. I had the ribs which were tender but not amazing by any means. I tried a bite of the meats my husband had, one was so nasty I almost gagged. I believe it was the pulled/chopped chicken. It was stringy and tasted boiled without any seasoning. The beans were definitely from a can and Cole slaw definitely had that Walmart look. The dining area smelt like trash and flies were everywhere, something I could have overlooked if the food had been amazing. Everything was scratch and sniff... Aka sticky and covered in food from previous diners.
We were so disappointed after reading so many 5 star reviews. This was the first restaurant/meal we had in Tennessee, and again, if not for the incredibly nice people, I wouldn't give it 2 stars. If you don't travel much, if you aren't a foodie you'll enjoy Preacher's. But if you know anything about cooking at all or you just love good food, don't eat here. You'll be...
Read morePreachers is a small BBQ joint on the side of a mountain road, the kind of place that oozes charm. When we arrived, I overheard a woman on the phone mention that they were out of burnt ends and potato salad, a good sign. I ordered the pulled pork/chicken, brisket, baked beans and coleslaw. Now, I should mention that my wife and I had been looking forward to this meal since we booked our vacation to The Great Smoky Mountains. With so many glowing reviews on Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp, the thought of a bad experience never crossed our minds. Boy was I about to be disappointed. After ordering, we entered the dining area, which smelt like garbage. This was most likely due to the large uncovered garbage can right inside the door. When our food arrived, I was a little disappointed to see chopped brisket instead of sliced, and there was no evidence of the wonderful bark you can achieve when properly smoking a brisket. Its only redeeming quality was that it was seasoned, unlike the chicken and pork. Additionally, none of the meat tasted like it had seen the inside of a smoker. My beans and coleslaw were OK, the fries were from Walmart (saw them go in the fryer), and the sauce was doctored Kraft BBQ Sauce (again, I saw the bottles in the back along with an employee putting some into to-go containers). Nothing about this meal was representative of the Tennessee style of BBQ. So, if you are in the Sevierville/Pigeon Forge area and looking for BBQ, please look...
