Sophie's Serendipity — Restaurant in Terra Alta

We had family in from Cincinnati recently. One evening we ordered carryout from Sophie's Serendipity. The menu is limited but the food is great. That evening we ordered scallops as an appetizer, fried soft crab sandwiches, and Italian sausage sandwich. All three were delicious. They gave you a nice serving of scallops for an appetizer. The soft crab sandwich was fried to perfection with a wonderful crunch and perfect taste. Who would have expected such a great fried soft crab sandwich in the mountains of West Virginia. The Italian sausage sandwich was not what I expected. It was much better. I was thinking that it would be your typical grilled Italian sausage link. It wasn't. Instead it was fresh ground Italian sausage patted out and fried/grilled like a hamburger. It was the best Italian sausage I have ever had. We were here from out of town for a few days and looking for a local place near Terra Alta for dinner. We found Sophie’s Serendipity, a small, local farm-to-table place and decided to give it a try. We’re so glad we did!! The food was delicious (best grilled chicken salad I’ve ever had). For the portion size, the prices were very reasonable.

The staff was super friendly. The cook (I think he may have been one of the owners) kept coming out of the kitchen to see if our food was to our liking. Because he didn’t have the exact type of fish that my daughter ordered, he personally came out of the kitchen to tell her and even offered to make her something else if she didn’t like the kind he cooked for her. But there was no need —- She absolutely loved it!!!

I see all of these high ratings and wonder how? Not bashing the place but our experience was less than average. We ordered a meal with sides, but no sides were available yet charged full price for a seafood meal. Shrimp cocktail was "hot" when it came to the table. Shrimp cocktail is cold so it was nuked prior to come out which can cause illness to some. Salad ordered was full of core(white) lettuce.
