My first time at this restaurant was about 3 weeks ago with my friend who's pregnant, so we couldn't have our regular sushi rolls. We ordered the Transformer Roll (recommended by another friend), Philadelphia Roll (my favorite but it was made different than I have had it, however all the ingredients was there. It was great!), Ritz D'Bento Special Roll (this Roll was awesome! There was a Roll on each side of a tempura Lobster), I don't remember the other Roll we didn't care for it that much. We left thinking this is our new spot. We are going to tell all our Sushi loving friends about this place. I wish I took photos but who takes photos when you are enjoying yourself!
So fast forward to last night the reason I am giving them 2 stars and I won't return. So last night I attended this restaurant with my pregnant friend. We ordered the Transformer Roll (it was good, just like the first time), we ordered 2 flaming rolls, one came out flaming but the other one did not (Texas Fire Roll and I don't remember the other) they were both topped with shredded cheese, both tasted the same so we actually thought it was the same Roll, we did not care for either. We had to ask 3 times for the 4th Roll that we ordered which was the Ritz D'Bento Special Roll. OMG I was so disappointed it was no where close to the Roll we received 3 weeks ago. The roll tasted like the Texas Fire Roll. It was covered with shredded cheese, there was no lobster in the lobster tail. It was filled with what appeared to be pimento cheese and imitation crab meat. They came out and tried to tell me the lobster was inside the Roll. There was imitation crab meat inside that Roll but it was not lobster tail. They tried to tell me that's how the Roll was made. No sir you tell that to someone that hasn't been here before. I was so disappointed, this was my birthday dinner and I was looking forward to the Ritz D'Bento Special Roll. I was offered a 10% discount I took it without an argument, it should have been removed because I did not eat it. We decided to go with the party bridge and selected the rolls we wanted to go with it. Keep in mind we are only two people and we asked if we could substitute the rolls for other speciality rolls. Our server nodded and took down our order. The first roll and our appetizers came out and the first sushi roll had avocado. I order sushi frequently in other areas and I wasn’t bothered by the first roll. It’s life, mistakes happen. we addressed it immediately since I was allergic. She apologized and walk away, leaving us assuming that it was going to be corrected.
Later, about 8 rolls popped up on our table and almost all of them had avocado inside. We were confused since we addressed it right after the minor issue with avocado on the first roll and also concerned with the quantity of sushi we are receiving. We asked the server and she pointed to the menu stating that the party bridge we ordered came with those select rolls only, but we were confused when she had confirmed everything we said at the beginning was correct. Also keep in mind everything had avocado in it. I didn’t want extra fish or other ingredients, just no avocado. Which everything had.
My partner tried asking another server because after everything, nobody spoke to us for about 15 minutes regarding the issue. the gentleman that we had asked laughed in our faces and told us to calm down when we weren’t angry, simply concerned with everything.
After that we had asked for the bill and paid for all the sushi before leaving, we felt bad for the misunderstanding on the rolls but we were frustrated that the rolls kept coming out with avocado after the first one had it. Friendly staff and hot food in a timely manner is generally good enough for me. I try not to expect too much so that I’m not disappointed everywhere I go. This also allows me to truly enjoy service that goes above and beyond. Ritz D’Bento really amazed me. Ok, so a couple of drinks got mixed up with a party of ten. That’s understandable. The hospitality however, was top notch. The staff wants not only to satisfy the customers, they want you to enjoy your visit and want to return. I could go in great detail about my experience but don’t take my word for it. Go experience for yourself. Look past the language barrier and appreciate the abundance of hospitality.
