We came to eat here with a party of three at 12 AM. They were extremely understaffed with only one waitress working, one cook and a manager who was filling in the holes. They place was packed with 50% of their seating being taken away by the state government over Covid concerns. Our waitress was Mary. She did her absolute best and was still personable and humorous, even though she was clearly tired and stressed. The couple behind us got irate over what I considered to be something very minor, which wasn't even really her fault (onions were left out of his hashbrowns. Mary obviously didn't cook the hashbrowns. The cook was within five feet of the customer.). One of their party began chewing out Mary and asked her if he was receiving "less service" because he was African American. He kept on and on, even asking the manager to send Mary home, even after Mary apologized for this minor mistake on her part. For over 15 minutes the man belittled Mary and the manager until he finally got his meal for free and left, which I think is what he was looking for all along. All the while Mary and the manager held it together. This was a very big reminder to me of how much petty junk these people deal with on a daily basis and for how little compensation. Our food and service was good and it was a welcome break for the late night, other than the customer making a fool and an @$s of himself. I commend Mary for keeping it together. I don't think I could have, especially for some minimum wage job that she could replace for a dime a dozen. The manager did as best as she could to de-escalate...
Read moreThis should be a no star review! The food was good it was a particular server that ruined mine, my husbands, and our friends experience. We all didn’t mind sitting at separate tables for the fact of their booths are small. The waitress that was assigned to serve our friends completely ignored the fact that they were sitting there waiting to order! And they were sitting down at their table at least 5 minutes before we sat down. The only difference between us and our friends was we were younger and had a white waiter and our friends were older and the server for their table was a young black woman. She ignored them for over 20 minutes! Our friends decided to leave and go somewhere else and as they were leaving the waitress proceeds to smile at them and just laugh. Basically because our friends were older and white they young black waitress...

We came into the Waffle House in Texarkana after a long night of traveling, exhausted and hungry. I’m on crutches but we stood there waiting, and when we finally managed to sit down at a dirty table near the waffle bar, things only got worse. The waiter never made eye contact, never greeted us, and acted like we simply weren’t there. We sat there for 15 more minutes, completely ignored, while the mess from the last group still sat on the table. No menus, no water, not even a “be right with you.” Eventually, we just left. It’s really unfortunate because Waffle House is usually one of our favorite places to stop on the road - usually dependable, welcoming, and friendly. But this location made us feel invisible and unwelcome. Totally...
