After recently moving out of the delivery area of my favorite Chinese and Thai restaurants, I was in search of a new restaurant that offered delivery. When I discovered Fortune Starās website, I was thrilled that they offered delivery ($2) within a 5-mile radius of their location. I really liked the idea that I didnāt have to use DoorDash, GrubHub or Uber Eats. I found their pricing in line with other similar restaurants.
I placed my order online via their website at 4:00 pm and it was delivered hot and fresh at 4:25 pm!! I live 4.5 miles from the restaurant.
Starting with the appetizers, the egg rolls were crispy, tasty, and contained pork. Iāve become accustomed to a standard of egg rolls being veggie only, so this was a bit of a surprise. Next was a delicious and crispy crab ragoon which we gobbled up. The egg drop soup had a delicate flavor and was the perfect consistency.
The vegetable green curry with steamed rice was better than what I used to order at my old go-to restaurant. The rice was fluffy and perfectly cooked. The green curry contained fresh broccoli, onions, carrots, celery, zucchini, snow peas, peppers, basil and water chestnuts. I wasnāt thrilled that it also had canned mushrooms, but I didnāt mind because the flavors were wonderfully blended with the perfect level of heat.
The egg Thai basil fried rice was fantastic! Again, the blend of flavors wasnāt overpowered by the right level of heat. This dish would have been even better if they would have used fresh pineapple instead of canned. Iām guessing the use of some canned ingredients are because there may not be enough demand for these dishes and some fresh ingredients spoil quickly.
Finally, the Mongolian special with fried rice was also very tasty. The fried rice wasnāt what I expected based on what is usually offered from other restaurants. It was steamed rice lightly blended with soy sauce. The simplicity of the rice was a good foundation for the very tasty Mongolian special with a brown sauce that was not overpowering. Of course a variety of sauces, crispy noodles and fortune cookies were included in the order.
I was thrilled with my order, and I highly recommend Fortune Star Chinese & Thai Cuisine. This little gem on the Corner of 380 and 1385 will be my new go-to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI truly love this place! Jane is gone š¢, the nice woman who worked the counter for years, she is missed.....HOWEVER, Chris is there now and he's so helpful and just like Jane helps me carry out our order to the car since I'm disabledš!!! The food is ALWAYS good and VERY HOT but that means if I get the Shrimp by the time I get home the Shrimp over cooks. So now I ask for the Shrimp on the side so I can add it in at the end of heating up my dinner. If we could my elderly mother and I would eat there. The one thing we've noticed, especially this last time is the to go containers are getting smaller. I have containers from, gosh a year ago or more, that I use to freeze meals in (the soup containers especially) and they are bigger. So we've lost about a 1/4-1/3 of the original to go amounts and prices go up just like everywhere else. So I wish they'd go back to the larger containers and I'll pay $0.50 more per entree. There are some dishes I wished they'd add, like Scallion Pancakes, Chicken Satay Appetizers, Moo Shu (any protein), Char Siu Pork, Twice Cooked Pork (I miss eating that when I lived in NY), Zhajiangmian, Bao Buns, Chow Mein (any protein) and String Bean Chicken (or any protein, its an American favorite). String Bean Chicken is my mother's favorite and I love it too. Unfortunately, we have to go to Panda Express for that dish and we all know their quality, quantity and price are terrible. Last time we got it the Green Beans were raw and when we called they said they only cook it for 2 minutes now!!! Raw Green Beans are terrible!! Anyway, I just wish Fortune Star could add some other dishes that are available elsewhere. I tell everyone about this restaurant because I've lived in 8 states, and this place is in the TOP 5 I've ever been to and #1 in a 30 mile radius here. I've lived in 3 cities in this metro area and only Yum Bistro next to Kroger on FM423 comes close but is still 2nd in my book to Fortune Star. They won't deliver to me because I'm 6 miles away & not 5 miles!!! Our at Fortune Star favorites are the Egg Fried Rice (I can't get enough), Green Curry (any protein), Kung Pao (any protein), Steamed Chicken & Veggies w/Garlic Sauce & Cashew Chicken!!! Thanks for every GREAT MEAL we've had since you opened!!! I'm truly your #1...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst off, the restaurant is VERY clean. The young man who took my order was extremely polite. I ordered to go in person and my order was prepared in under 10 minutes. I was offered something to drink while I waited which was nice. I got the small egg drop soup and the Mongolian chicken. The small egg drop soup is a really good serving and the fried wonton nice and crispy. The soup isn't too salty, but next time I'll ask them to add green onions. The Mongolian chicken has a lot of chicken and is mixed with a good sauce, onions, green onions and the dried peppers. Serving size is good. I got the steamed rice and again serving size is good. I have enough for leftovers and everything was still piping hot when I got it home. It was about $16 total with tax, but of course I added a tip. Maybe a tad on the pricey side, but I should get at least 2 meals from it so maybe not. I would order from here again as it is close to my house. Overall, I was...
