Sometimes you stumble on a hidden gem.

I've driven past this place dozens of times on my way home, always thinking I need to stop in and give them a try. Today was the day. Can't tell you how glad I am that I did! The seafood products they are turning out here are exceptional. I opted for the #1 fish plate, consisting of 5 pieces of fried catfish, 2 hush puppies, on a bed of old-school krinkle-cut fries, only $6.50 w/ tax. Every single thing was exceptional. The catfish fillets were thin-sliced, and dusted with a perfectly-seasoned fine-grind cornmeal coating. Thin-sliced catfish can be hard to do well, since its easy to overcook. But these guys were spot on. The hush puppies were homemade, and included bits of corn kernels, and were well-seasoned too. No tasteless fried dough balls here! Even the krinkle-cut fries were perfect! All signs that these guys know what they're doing and then some. No fishy taste, no old oil taste, just 100% goodness.

This place is AMAZING! THE BEST FISH AND SHRIMP THAT I HAVE EVER HAD!! I worked with the owner, in the past, and he is an honest guy who deserves your business! I normally dont eat fish outside of my house because it always has that fishy water taste but Ray's fish doesn't have that. The breading holds up and doesn't flake off. It really is the best fish. I always get the number 7 which is called U Call It. You choose how many fish and how many shrimp out of a total of 14. It also comes with fries and two hush puppies for a little less than $20. This is going to be your best bang for your buck. It is located on Atascocita Road in between Woodland Hills and Timber Forest right next to the garage door sales place. But I heard that they're also opening up one in Porter Texas on 494 right near East Martin Drive and next door to Pete's Burgers place. I literally live right down the street off of East Martin. We've been eating this seafood since Ray first opened up. I'm from this part of the country and have eaten my share of catfish and shrimp but none, including my own can compare to this! Their catfish is lightly battered mostly in cornmeal, never caked on, then deep fried until it's crispy. Seasoned to perfection! The shrimp has a shrimp batter and is prepared by deep frying until its crispy yet not over done and rubbery. The hush puppies are the best in Texas. Just read a couple of negative reviews and I believe they were at a different place. There is a truck on FM 1960 maybe that's where they went. This place is excellent! I have no reason to tell you wrong. Been eating this food...
