Our server was EXCEPTIONAL in the bar area, but I did not get his name (He was also the guy taking the phone orders)
Strawberry margarita was great, and not too heavy on the stomach with that artificial syrup like a lot of other places have. My wife ordered two different mixed drinks and enjoyed both. Bottle beer was cold. Only 3 beers on draft FYI. Michelob, XX, and something else.
We tried the combo app with fried mushrooms and fried zucchini. Both good, zucchini is delightful though. The house made ranch is a MUST for dipping.
CFC better than CFS, but both were good. Crust comes off the CFS easy but I’m a texture guy and love the crunch. Important detail, I ordered sauce on the side. CFC had sauce on and no issue. Use that how you wish. They also had Chalula and other hot sauces to offer with it as well.
Bland unseasoned green beans, M&C tastes like they did double Kraft mac powder and extra milk (it was good but.. idk. Just different from normal places). If you like Kraft Mac definitely try it. Kinda nostalgic.
Okra was delicious. Not too salty which is RARE, and we can tell it was cooked in very fresh oil. Top notch. Homemade onion rings (not the regular onion rings that they also offer), had 4 of them stuck together, but the ones we ate were good (maybe 10 other big rings). Batter needs some seasoning like SPG and they’d be perfect. I should have asked if they offer a sauce like Outback Steakhouse does for the Bloomin’ Onion. That would’ve been perfect!Fair pricing and portion size. We weren’t disappointed.
Other customers in the cafe were either very friendly, or just kept to themselves/their table. Good food, good service. It’s close to home so we will...
Read moreNever tried this place before...so I called to ask if they had chicken n Dumplings. Drove to the restaurant and the parking lot was full. I was thinking oh this must be a great place to eat. I went inside found myself a booth and sat down. Took a while before a server came. I was sooooo hungry. I asked about the salad bar but the waitress didn't answer my question. So I just sat there hungry because the place was so busy. Finally got an answer for the salad bar. Salad bar is tiny but had fresh selection $4.50 for one tiny bowl though one trip. So I ordered my dinner and told my waitress I'll do the salad bar. Came back to my table eating the salad and my dinner shows up. Then the waitress asked me hows the chicken n dumplings....I said well I eat cold foods first then I'll eat my dinner. I told her I hope the chicken n dumplings doesn't get cold do you have a heat lamp to put it under? But she walked away. So I didn't even finish my tiny bowl of salad that's $4.50 just one trip thinking my food will get cold. The Chicken and Dumplings had No Flavor tasted like food in a nursing home...bland. Of course I started to get disappointed. So I gave my waitress a $20 bill and asked for a to go container. Waitress bring me back a $5 and some $1's but no coin change. So I called her to me. I said I don't know what it is about you young waitresses in this part of Texas why do you think you can keep a customers coin change. Do you know that is theft. These were not questions but statements. I told her I am in the server industry and I tip very well but you have already kept my change of 53¢ I would of given you $2 but you have already stolen from me. Who...
Read moreMy Splendora Cafe and BBQ restaurant experience was good. It is a good restaurant for casual dining and business conversations. The fried oysters and BBQ brisket were my favorites. The oysters were fried crispy, yet they were tender and juicy on the inside. The brisket was very tender, seasoned, and smoked well, but not as well as the best Louisiana smoked BBQ brisket.
I was disheartened to see my business client's catfish order arrive with only 3-short, somewhat dry-fried fish fillets, but her fried shrimp was excellent. I told her she could ask for a redo on the catfish, but she did not. I also suggested, if she liked the catfish enough, she should try it on a Friday, a more popular fish day. The service was slow, but eventually good. The atmosphere was a little rude at first. Some customers and staff gave judgemental stares at seeing individuals who were totally new to the area and restaurant. The restaurant management could research ways to exhibit and support an open, welcoming attitude toward all, including newcomers of all backgrounds. This will encourage their customers to do the same.
It was pricey for having to get my salad from a small salad bar. All-in-all, we had a lot of food - over $90 less than $100 for two entrees, appetizer, salads, with 1 shared dessert and tip, in this setting. Neverthess, the restaurant was clean with nice booths, and restrooms, and we enjoyed a good meal and business communication. The hush puppies and fries were good. The apple pie was ordinary mass-produced apple pie. I made a mistake and ordered an apple pie instead of the fresh-made peach cobbler, so I missed trying their version of...
