A funky little road side bbq pit located in Canyon Lake, TX. As we drove up, we could already get a small whiff of the meat being smoked. My son and I walked up to the counter and were greeted by a very friendly order taker and a sweet older woman who had just ordered before us. As we ordered, she gave her enthusiastic approval of our choices.
The first thing we noticed was the very affordable prices! We ordered a 3 meat plate (that included 2 sides), two drinks, a sliced beef sandwich, peach cobbler, and a slice of homemade pecan pie and with tip it came out to $26. That's unheard of at other more popular BBQ spots.
And how was the food, you ask? Well... as a professed Texas BBQ lover, I thought it was on the dry side. It's possible we caught them on an "off" day but it honestly wasn't my favorite. We had the ribs, the jalapeno cheese sausage, and the sliced beef. Of the three, I'd only order the sliced beef again.
On the plus side: The sides and desserts were amazing! We had the mac n' cheese and the potato salad. Soooo yummy! And no joke, the peach cobbler and pecan pie were some of the best I've ever had. Definitely homemade. Oh and did I mention the pecan pie has little chocolate chips inside? Delicious. Worth the stop, even if it's just for dessert... and the...
Read moreA favorite hidden spot. I wont be rating this place for the Brisket or Ribs.. What I come here for is the Chop BBQ sandwich. Whenever I am out this direction, I stop by to grab a Chop BBQ sandwich.
Sometimes I take my sandwich to go and eat along the river at a picnic table, other times I eat under their roof at the picnic tables. Its a good place to grab food if you want to take a scenic drive down river road which starts right outside their restaurant.
The BBQ in the chop sandwich is pretty good.. compared to other chop sandwiches this is one of my favorites. It has a lot of smokey mesquite flavor, the meat is tender, and the sauce brings it all together. The portion sizes on these sandwiches is good as well and makes for a good lunch when bundled with some chips and a soda which they offer as a combo.
On a side note.. this place gets some traffic, Ive placed business cards on the tack board, and received calls from people who know me.. keep in mind I live 40 miles from the location.
This is a great spot for a weekend drive, a quick meal that's tasty and affordable. Give it a try.. it might become a favorite...
Read moreWent here while on vacation and my wife and I have a specific card we both use and each have our own. Well the lady working the booth asked to see my id. I told her that's fine but the card is in my wife's name. She proceeds to tell me there's too many thieves around here so I can't accept that. I replied calmly I'm not a thief and the whole group sitting at the table is my family including my father in law. She tells me I have no way to know you're not a thief so I'm not taking it. I said ok that's fine then after being accused twice. Well, FIL walks up and asks what the problem is, so I tell him, and he pays for it. (I told him he didn't have to, and I could go without supporting a business that doesn't want my money.) Well, then I get the food and i ordered the 2 meat plate. The sausage tastes like something of great value quality and there's only half a link and there's only one rib. I thought I was in Texas where everything is bigger... then I got potato salad and some other side. It was all OK at best. The BBQ sauce tasted like a bottle of vinegar. Just overall a very poor experience and I do...
