John was our guide; I write that first because he was the most important variable for making our excursion 5+ stars!!! It was all good, but it is the people with whom you interact that are the key to the experience, and John was over-the-top. Some suggestions I have are: 1. Wear water shoes or sandals & shorts or a bathing suit (in October anyway); you won't get wet but it just makes it easier; 2. Bring a camera (or your phone with a camera); it also will not get wet; 3. Bring a water bottle, the paddle is easy but nice to have water esp. if it is warm. They say show up 30 minutes early and that might be necessary if it is a big group or if this is your first time kayaking, but 15 minutes early seems fine (call them and ask them). Parking is a breeze! When you pull into Joe's Crab Shack parking lot, go all the way over the right and park, the kayaks are right behind the restaurant on that side. Getting in the water is easy. They push your kayak partway into the water, and you step from dry land into the kayak, and then they gently shove you off---easy and not one drop of water gets on you. In fact, the only water that gets on you throughout the trip are the drips from the paddles as you paddle along. Oh yes, SUNSCREEN is important; you are on the water with reflected rays even if there is cloud cover. It is a relaxing, enjoyable, good value experience and I would highly recommend it. I'll bet all their guides are good. It seems like that kind of company, but I will request John if I...
Read moreWent to Austin for the day. I decided to go kayaking. This is the first place on the way into this end of the city. I tried to get on their first tour, but it was sold out so they got me onto their net tour. The short wait was ok because I got to walk around the Austin downtown area. There was lots of eating places and clothes stores to look in.
When I finally got back from strolling around we got picked up by our tour guide in a nice van, our tour guide went over the basics and we were off. Right on time! We got to the kayak launch spot within 40 minutes, nice safe car ride. The kayaks were the sit on top ones like the pictures of reviewers. Your basics.
Our group was just 4 kayaks. We then launched out onto a nice river, pretty easy. You get a little wet but hey, that's what you expect! We paddled over around until everyone was in the water and then started down stream.
I would recommend this trip to everyone that wants to have a great time either alone or with your family. They have kayaks for everyone! A great place to use for a...
Read moreI went for just an hour kayak rental- I just wanted to clear my head a little- I had a reservation for 4-5, but he contacted me and let me know since they close officially at 5, I can come early and get extra time! I was on my way anyway, so this worked out! He let me know not to feel rushed though, they would wait for me to get back- I was their only boat out. As always I love the river, and they were there for when I got back! If I had to say something to improve on, I would say someone get them a more official table & sign set up behind the crab Shack. If I hadn't made a reservation I wouldn't have thought they were legit. HAPPILY WRONG! And just out of preference I think a couple single kayaks would be nice too, as opposed to the Tandem Kayaks. But again, great customer service and interaction, clean equipment! 5 stars...
