Vegan Donut & Gelato — Restaurant in Texas

My wife and I took consideration into this establishment solely based off the reviews. There aren’t many local vegan donut shops, so we figured we’d give it a try. Unfortunately this will be our last experience dealing with this business.

The general upkeep of this establishment was acceptable, but the practices of the employee taking orders were unsanitary.

The employee had no knowledge of the products he was selling. We asked what were the ingredients in the donuts and his response was, “I don’t know, we get it straight from the factory, but it’s vegan.” That response alone had us second guessing, but as supporters of small businesses we ignored his ignorance.

After he got my donut from the microwave, I headed over to the cash register to pay, but I hear my wife asking him, “Are you going to grab a different one?” I ask what the problem was, and come to find out the employee dropped the donut and put it back in the display, then he attempted to package it!! He did not know my wife was watching him. He then arrogantly asked, “Well, what do you want me to do?” She responded by saying that we don’t want the donut you dropped and it needs to go in the trash. He threw it away and asked if we wanted him to grab a different one.

Mistakes happen and the issue wasn’t not being able to get the donut I wanted, but the fact he attempted to sell us a donut that fell on the floor! This is how food borne illnesses/poisoning beings. I’m curious to know if that employee even obtained his food handlers license.

I undoubtedly do not enjoy leaving negative reviews, but as owners of a food establishment, I am inclined to prioritize the safety of the public health. The idea of this business alone has so much potential, but when you hire employees that aren’t knowledgeable or sanitary, that potential goes to flames.

With all of these infectious diseases spreading, if one decides to eat out I urge you all to check that establishments rating from the Local Health Department as well as their past sanitation and food safety history, check how the food is stored/prepared, check for proper sanitation, check to see if the staff is knowledgeable of the product or can direct you to a manager that is, and check if the managers certifications are met.

Kolaches to Crave: The kolaches are a revelation! They have a huge selection with all sorts of amazing vegan protein fillings that perfectly replicate the taste and texture of meat. I can't get enough of them!

Vegan Everything! Beyond the donuts and gelato, they have a fantastic selection of other vegan goodies, from drinks and soups to protein mixes and more. It's a vegan wonderland!

Wonderful Owners: The couple who own the shop are so friendly and welcoming. They're passionate about what they do, and it shows in every aspect of their business.
