The atmosphere in this old building is great, our waitress was very accommodating and nice. The meal, the other hand, was disappointing and very pricey for what I got. I'll start with the cocktails. Yet another restaurant bar that cannot make proper Old Fashion. The bar itself is not very well stocked and only has run of the mill spirits. So skip the cocktails, unless Jack and coke is your goto cocktail. Now the appetizer. My wife and I had chargrilled oysters. I definitely recommend that you PASS on this app. It is just a blob of cheese on an otherwise good chargrilled oyster. Then to add insult to injury, no sooner than I had my first oyster the salads were crammed onto our table. I HATE THIS and I double hate it in a restaurant with a relatively pricey menu like Fremin's. My salad was a Caeser salad and was pretty good. On to the main course, the ribeye. It was a nice piece of meat and tender but it was a little salty and just OK. It was served with the "chef's vegetables" which I liked. Lastly the desert. Desert was good but I feel a little bamboozled. The pistachio ice cream was Blue Bell and I am pretty sure my cannoli was not made in house :(. Again, this speaks to the cost of the dish. If I were you I would give it a try but be prepared to be disappointed. At this point I will recommend it WITH hesitation. The price point is just too high for...
Read moreI didn't like the meal I got the first time I went to Fremin's, but was encouraged to give it a second try. This time one of our party suggested the eggplant seafood stack. It was a good recommendation. I started with the smoked duck gumbo which is delicious and not that common on menus. Since the eggplant stack was not served over pasta or rice I ordered a side of new potatoes. The eggplant slices were breaded and well cooked to that perfect point between tough and flabby. There was a thick layer of seafood dressing between the eggplant slices and all was covered with a cream sauce generously filled with crabmeat, oysters & shrimp. It really did not need a starch as a side, which was good, as the chopped new potatoes were swimming in melted butter and Cajun seasoning and we're unpleasantly salty. I took part of my meal home and added half a plain potato to the leftovers to even out the seasoning. The tiramisu we shared with our coffee was a nice ending but not terribly flavorful. All in all, Fremin's was much better this time around and I look forward to eating there at the next...
Read moreThe chargrilled oysters were excellent! They were full of cheese and spices and served piping hot, and a nice change from the traditional recipe at Acme Oyster House. The special for the night was veal cutlet with crabmeat in a sauce that put me into orbit! It was so tender and a delight to my tastebuds! The cannoli with pistachio ice cream for dessert was a refreshing finish to an outstanding dining experience. Cudos to Matthew our waiter and the servers that assisted him! I still give Fremins 5 stars even though the hostess that greeted us, I think her name was Melanie, had the personality of a broomstick. The wine list has a 400% markup, really guys, there's no need to price wine so high, lower your bottle prices and you will sell a lot more...Needless to say, I saw most of the patrons ordering beer and wine by the glass... We brought in our own wine and paid the $25 corkage fee. In closing, my wife and I would definitely recommend Fremins to our friends and would dine there again if we ever have a reason to visit Thibodaux, it's an oasis in the night in a sleepy...
