Sunrise Diner — Restaurant in Thomasville

AWFUL!!! So mom says, "Let's just go get something to eat at Sunrise Diner". I say "sure, that's fine". So we go and eat. The food is ok, But the service from the waitress was AWFUL! She came over to bring my son his only refill on his drink when we were finished eating! My son asked for "a box to go please". The waitress said "you want a box?" My son and I said "Yes". The waitress said "ok" and left. She then walked over to the manager and started a conversation with him. We waited for 10 minutes for the box, asked another waitress for the box and then our waitress acted like she was going to get it, but then started talking again. I got up to pay the check and made the statement "Well I guess he doesn't get a box, because the waitress is too busy talking". Then she got him a box, with an attitude! The cashier asked how was everything and did I want to leave a tip on the card. I said "no, absolutely not". My response was, "the food was fine, but the service was terrible", she asked why so I told her. The waitress promptly came over and started to smart off to me. The manager is looking confused and asked what I was upset about. I stated "that my son asked for a box and the waitress was to busy talking to earn any kind of a tip." The waitress came back over to me and and told the cashier "what happened was that he asked for a box and when I went to get it, the manager stopped me to talk to me and I forgot. What was I supposed to do not listen to my manager?" I said "you should have told the manager: just a minute, I need to get something for a customer" However, what she didn't realize is that the entire time she was having a conversation with the manager, we were watching her. For 5 minutes straight she, the manager and 2 others were leaning against the counter not talking! I looked straight at her and she still did nothing. I said "hey, it's not my tip" the waitress said "I don't need your tip, I' have enough to cover me for the week". When we were walking out, 2 customers were walking in and I told mom that I wouldn't be back for a long while because while the food was ok, the waitress was atrocious! Just going by my experience and I don't know about others but there's been quite a few times I'm going to the drive-thru at this place and they are quite hateful at times almost as if they wish to have even pulled up to the intercom I ordered the country-style steak day before yesterday with cabbage and mashed potatoes and a cherry cobbler all was good except for the country steak seems to taste like it came out of a Frozen banquet box and they had those little hard things you know when you bite down every blue moon you'll get one of those little hard pieces in the meat so has I said before this kind of reminds me of a banquet frozen dinner when you would buy country-style steak or cube steak very very bad that's just my opinion everybody has an opinion but I would never buy this again my cabbage was big ol hunk two pieces of cabbage like they didn't take the time to even cut the cabbage down I have eat inside this establishment with family after church on Sundays and it is true it seems like it takes forever to get refills on drinks it seems like everybody is bouncing and hopping all over the place when all they need to do is just take a deep breath and go with the flow I really don't recommend this place on one of my top 5 to eat at I think I go there maybe once out of every 3 or 4 months like I said if you'd like to wait banquet dinners taste then you'll like this food I doubt I'll be back until they improve it's not like it used to be back in 12 years ago oh well just my...

The Sunrise Diner is in a great location. There is plenty of parking. They keep the dining area very clean and it's well lit. We've eaten here about five times since moving to the area, and all visits have been positive. The name says diner, but it could just as easily say family restaurant. For the most part, the menu is Greek influenced diner fare, which I am a fan of. What I mean is that you have typical diner fare, but also Gyros, spaghetti etc. They do have a cafeteria style buffet, but we have not tried that. Things we have ordered that were especially good: omelets, spaghetti, pancakes (their oreo pancakes... outstanding!) My favorite is the shrimp. They don't advertise it as all you can eat, but you are given so much that you should be proud if you can finish it. It's very good, though a tad salty. (Leftover shrimp cook up nicely in the air fryer too, lol) Service has always been very good here and orders come from the kitchen quickly, even when they are busy. I find the prices to be very reasonable. Not the cheapest, but far from the most expensive.
