You can't get happier people,, better service, or better diner food than here. Period. I dare you to find better eggs, Chile, French Toast, Pork Chops, Bacon, Chile rellono, or authentic, carved-off-the-rotisserie gyro meat. Pete gets mad if you don't clean your plate.....or he gives you to-go box. Seriously they take pride in all they produce. Hang around long enough, Pete makes something off the menu and gives you a taste. This is fun, delicious, and old Americana diner for breakfast and lunch. If you don't like it, well you don't know good grub, or the meaning of original home cooking - at the local diner.
Update: I posted a picture of my "customized" breakfast- and i can tell you it's delicious. 3eggs over easy, tomatoes slices instead of fried potatoes ( they are hand cut, fried crisp, and fantastic, but I watch my carbs!), Gyro meat plate, with half order delicious french toast, pita grilled, and homemade Tsaziki sauce ( the best in USA, or the world) (made by Mom!) , coffee, water. Eat at the counter if you are by yourself, and talk to Pete, his son Nick, daughters Nicki, Jenn, Amy*, and Vasoula. (Son-in-law Jay can be found cooking cleaning, and filling coffee, too.). If you know Greek you can hear Pete telling them to make sure to keep the service excellent, food out immediately, at all times! A.K.A. "the 'good' daughter.
( Note: Daughter Nicki, sadly, passed suddenly , of medical complications months ago. Very sad times, that we don't get to see her anymore. But that didn't stop this hard working extended family - )
I couldn't help but add a comment to respond to the lady (Donita) that says she was upset ☹️ about being told the closing time was 2:00 pm. She bragged she was in Resturaunt business for nearly 3 decades. If that were true, she'd have said, ' oh, okay - can I get it to go?' . She would have known that one person, and a couple small kids are going to be there an hour. That means a couple meals at 1:55 will be served at 2:05, and the table, the floor, the dishwasher, and the coffee maker won't be cleaned until they leave. The grill gets cleaned 10-25 minutes late, and the kitchen floor, therefore is cleaned 20-30 minutes late. The owner that started at 300 a.m. prepping for opening will be there at least an hour and a half later, looking after the end-of-day routine, that probably could have started at 1:50 if the place was cleared out. Her waitress will have to stay to close out her checks, and get her few dollars tip. Many waitresses work two jobs, so her late meal would make that waitress late, or maybe miss her kids pickup at school. The owners wife would wait an extra 40 minutes before she can upload all the charge receipts and close the register out. Many restaurants close kitchen/grill 15 -30 minutes earlier than "closing", so staff gets out on time. If it were true, that she know restaurants, she'd know that her "walk in" w/kids ( I was told this by a regular that was talking about this lady's post on Sunday - a lot of us know one another at Pete's - it's that kind of place) was actually kind of in poor taste. And, she'd be able to do the math that her 2:05- 2:15 meal, and eating until 3:00 pm probably- would cost the owner 4- 5 man-hours extra, which is likely $140-$165, or more if Friday was end of week and EEs were over their 40/week and this was all on overtime. She'd know that her actions could put the shop back enough to ruin a day's profits. ( No one gets rich in diner business working 7 days a week). My guess, is she knew all this when she supposedly ran a restaurant, but she forgot it all this, when she became an unreasonable customer that sees only what she wants to see.
I'd suggest she go back, and 1:30 , or anytime, and she'll see why this family loves it's customers, all kids,a serves great cafe food. At the register Pete will see kids and he keeps lollipops under counter - just for the littlest customers.
Lighten up....
Read moreI have been going to Pete's Cafe for close to two years now. I would consider myself a regular. Maybe not as regular as once a month, but at least once every other month. There food has always been very good. I also appreciate the fact that Pete often comes over and gets to know his customers. Today was the exception. I took my friend to eat here for the first time ever. I was excited to show her a local place that my husband and I enjoy on a regular basis. Unfortunately when we got there I realized that I had forgotten my purse. I didn't want my friend to wait for me in the parking lot so I asked her to ride back with me quickly. I literally live no more than 8 minutes away from the restaurant by car. She agreed and we went and grabbed my purse. When we got back we went in and ate. The food was good like always. My friend liked it very much and even talked about going back with her family. When she got home she called me when she realized there was a note taped to her door. The note told her how dare she park there and then go somewhere else, it went on to say she was lucky that she hadn't been towed. This was not a busy hour at the restaurant and she was not parked right in front of the establishment. It was on the side next to another business. We came right back and we were customers at this establishment. We got back there in no more than 20 minutes (probably less). I understand the need for parking, especially since this is a small establishment, but to be honest I was embarrassed by this behavior. I talked this restaurant up only to have them scold my friend like she had done...
Read moreWent there for a quick breakfast, ordered a couple eggs over easy HB sausage and toast. Took a little longer than expected and I sat at the counter and saw them plate my meal. There it sat for a while before they made my toast.
I finally get my meal and I can tell the eggs are overcooked, no yolk to dip the ole toast in. But I was hungry so I tried to eat anyway. The toast was a little too brown and dry despite the prebutter. So I sat and waited for a waitstaff to inquire about mey meal so I could maybe get a replacement before I gave up and pushed my third eaten meal to the side of the counter.
The guy next to me at the counter received his eggs and they looked perfect, so I know they could do it right. No one asked me until it was clear I wasn't going to finish my meal how it was. So I was honest and told them it was terrible (the 2/3 of a plate left should have been a clue) and why.
They gave me my bill which I paid - nothing was said about my crappy meal. Won't...
